STEAM...Coding, and more! by St. Elizabeth

The International Hour of Code is celebrated in partnership with Computer Science Education Week, usually the first week in December. However, coding can be experienced in most every aspect of our curriculum, at anytime.

Scroll through this page to review resources for "computer science" activities to engage students in coding. Both online activities, apps to install and flat coding activities that require no computer. These resources are applicable for learners at 3 years and older.
If you locate additional activities, please send them to smoore@stekcschool.org to be added within this online list.

All learners should be given the opportunity to code.
Besides the fact that coding, also called programming, is a skill set that early learners could use for a future career in a world that has a shortage of skilled coders and programmers, coding can help other subjects, too—coding can improve soft skills like perseverance and problem-solving that educators emphasize.
Coding is especially beneficial to those who are struggling with reading and math.
In addition, young learners often feel empowered when they can create digital media and share it with others instead of just being consumers of digital media.
