Making it a game or incorporating different hands-on toys can engage young children in learning the steps to thinking like a programmer and begin to understand the world around them.

*Coding helps children develop new ways of thinking by breaking up big problems into smaller steps.

*Coding helps take the fear out of making mistakes or failing. It teaches persistence in finding a way to solve your problem.

  • If you plan to complete any activities with printables, print handouts for each learner and have all supplies needed ready to distribute.
  • Make sure you have a computer for each learner, or a computer for each pair of learners. If you must pair up (“pair programming"), then make sure partners take turns being the "typer" and the watcher.
  • Make sure you have good Internet access in the classroom.
  • Make sure you have a compatible browser installed on the computers. Google Chrome is preferred, but Safari 5, Internet Explorer 10+ and Mozilla Firefox should also work. IE8 will not work. ChromeBooks should work, since they use Google Chrome.
  • Provide headphones or ask your learners to bring headphones.

Students can code and then watch their work in VR (or 360--headsets not needed for enjoyment). Did I mention it is free? Each activity has 15 segments, and I had a group of teachers working on it at the beginning of November and they loved it. They couldn't wait to share with their students.
