Sometime last year, several of our adult kids were home for the weekend and over dinner we were talking about favorite teachers/ classes. Sam mentioned that one of his favorite classes in undergrad was Math Through the Eyes of Faith, which I believe you taught. I think it was one of those formative experiences in young adulthood for him that helped him see more clearly God's presence and beauty woven throughout all of creation.

Thank you for investing in my son!

Sarah Jones

Bob made math easy and fun! After graduation from SBU, I went on to teach Middle School Math for 7 years. I presented at several conferences in those years and seeing Bob at many of them always made me feel among the elite! I had the pleasure of being Betty’s student when I was in middle school and having Bob in college made me feel like family. I was successful in college and life because of my former teachers and professors. I’ll always remember my time at SBU and my courses taught by Dr. Glasgow. Thank you for all the dedication and love you poured into education! Cheers to many more years of laughter and fun for Betty and yourself!

-Erin (Crawley) Scott

SBU Class of 2011

I was in your Math for Elementary Teachers class in the 90s. I appreciated learning the history of numbers (or digits) and how and why we count. I'm a high school special educator now and have taught Geometry, Algebra 1 and 2 and Pre-algebra...thank you for paving the way for future teachers and learners. Congratulations on your retirement!

I enjoyed having you as a teacher even though I don't enjoy math. 🤣 Best wishes and congrats on your lengthy career teaching at SBU. You picked the best college to teach at.

You were one of the first Professors I met at SBU. It was my tour day and I was a nervous High School Senior who really had no clue what she wanted to do, but you were so welcoming and answered all of our questions, really solidifying my decision to go to SBU and Major in Math. You made Math so easy and fun! During those years you quickly became one of my favorite teachers and I remember thinking, “If I ever decide to be a teacher, I hope to make an impact like Dr. Glasgow.” At that time though, teaching wasn’t on my radar. When I finally decided to get a Masters in Education, I was so excited that I would get to learn from you again. Now, I’ve been teaching 5 years and often think about the advice you would give us in Methods of Teaching Math. I’m so thankful for your leadership and wisdom. You’ve truly made a difference in my life.

Congratulations on your retirement!

Lindsey Major

SBU Class of 2015, 2018

You have been one of my favorite teachers here at SBU. Your passion for math and teaching rubs off on us students and seeing your love for the Lord and your family is inspiring. You’re a great man and a wonderful teacher. Thank you for having so many different ways to teach one subject in math. You have definitely proved that math can be taught by anyone who takes the time to learn the WHY and not just the how. You’ve taught me how to explain complicated subjects to young minds and made me think about things I never thought about before. Have a wonderful retirement, but it’s sad to see you go!!

I give you all the credit. When I first started your Business Statistics class, I thought I wouldn't like it and you proved me wrong when I came to understand Statistics. Now I am going for a minor in Statistic along with my accounting major. Thank you for being my teacher and teaching me to love statistics and math even more than I did previously. I hope you enjoy your retirement and enjoy life to the fullest.

Dr. Glasgow,

Thank you for fulfilling your calling to be a math teacher! Math has developed me both intellectually and in my walk with the Lord and I absolutely love how you integrate your faith into mathematics. You showed me that math is more than just mindless arithmetic, but rather a reasoning, a way to see creation in a way you never thought of, and a way to grow closer to the Lord by seeing through the eyes of faith. I’ve learned that my faith is more than a statistical probability of a Creator, but how He created me in His image to reason as He reasons, serve as He has served, and fully dedicate my life to Him and not to a professor, or boss. Dr. Glasgow, not only have you been a teacher, you have showed your students the way to honor the Lord both in your teaching and in your retirement, you have made it clear that inside and outside of the classroom, we are to honor the Lord with the gifts and talents He has given us!

I came across this passage this semester and just thought it summed up well how you have been a teacher that has showed me the way to seek the Lord, and how because of that I have become more mature:

Ephesians 4:11-15 NASB

[11] And He gave some as apostles, and some as prophets, and some as evangelists, and some as pastors and teachers, [12] for the equipping of the saints for the work of service, to the building up of the body of Christ; [13] until we all attain to the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a mature man, to the measure of the stature which belongs to the fullness of Christ. [14] As a result, we are no longer to be children, tossed here and there by waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, by craftiness in deceitful scheming; [15] but speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in all aspects into Him who is the head, even Christ,

Though your time at SBU is coming to an end, the impact you have had on students shines through! Thank you for everything you have done, thank you for letting Christ shine through you, and we wish you God’s best in the next chapter He has for you! I don’t want to end this note, because when I submit this, it makes it more real in my mind that you really are leaving and I will miss you, but I will end with this scripture that God put on my heart:

Numbers 6:24-26 KJV

[24] The Lord bless thee, and keep thee: [25] The Lord make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee: [26] The Lord lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace.

I know you will have so much fun in retirement, and I hope that whoever takes over teaching Geometry Data and Probability will do this fun activity. Since I will never forget what it is like to know the volume of a sphere 4 pi r squared. Again, thank you so much.

Abby Jacobi :)
