Mr. Piazza's Choir Classes: 4/28, 4/29

One of the first things I noticed about Mr. Piazza was that he was very expressive and into the career he was doing! During these class periods all of the students were working on choreography for a play they had coming up so it was very busy the whole time. The classes I observed were doing the musical Hairspray and Mamma Mia.

Teacher to Student interactions:
-Mr. Piazza was very interactive and observant with all of his students. I would assume because they had an important event coming up.
-Mr. Piazza was very kind and fun and tended to joke around with the students a lot, but he still stayed professional and made sure the students were learning their choreography well.
-Mr. Piazza would split up the boys and girls so they can work on their different dances and etc. While they were practicing, Mr. Piazza would hop in between both rooms hyping up the kids, helping them out, and making sure they are on track and he is as well.
-There was one scenario when a girl named McKenna randomly started screaming at someone over something to do with the dance they were rehearsing. Mr. Piazza handled this situation really well and calmed her down and the whole class by saying "Shh. Everyone take a moment to breathe." I think he handled this professionally because of how well he hid that she was excluded, or embarrassed about what happened.
-One cool thing I noticed about Mr. Piazza was that he was very energetic and liked to dance along with all the students while they are rehearsing. He would also hype all of his kids up by saying "Yes! I see you!" whenever they are doing something really good or correcting something they weren't doing right before.
-It was really cool when Mr. Piazza recognized all the leaders and people that placed at state in choir that previous weekend at the end of class!
-Overall, Mr. Piazza was very interactive with the students and made sure everyone was on track and busy the whole hour. I thought he was very caring and it seemed like he truly cared about his students, individually.

Student to Student interactions:
The students were all very loving like a family. Nobody seemed to be in cliques, other than the fact that the seniors were separated for part of the rehearsal.
-Nobody in the classroom looked like they were unhappy and did not want to be in that class. They all seemed to have a love for music and they all were so involved in the choreography and music.
-The students were good at giving constructive criticism to each other and they were all very helpful towards one another.
-Overall, they all got along really well and seemed like a huge choir family.

Mrs. Swan's Nutrition Class: 4/29

In Mrs. Swans nutrition class they were going over exercise and why it is good and important for our bodies. She goes over macro nutrients, how exercise improves your mood, immune system, and glucose/glycogen levels. This was all presented on a power point presentation. Mrs. Swan was a pretty professional teacher. There was nothing about her that specifically stuck out to me about her, but she seemed like a good teacher!

Teacher to Student interactions:
-Mrs. Swan was very sweet, down to earth, and easy going.
-Mrs. Swan was very willing to help anyone on their nutrition projects!
-She spent the whole class period helping people with their nutrition projects, and the last 15 minutes they watched a nutrition video as well.
-While the student were watching the video, Mrs. Swan noticed a student that was on his phone the whole entire class period, so she went over and asked him to put it away. I soon realized he had special needs, or he was slow in some aspect. She handled that situation very well and quietly.

Student to Student interactions:
-The student started off the class quietly, but they got more talkative as the class period went on. I also did not notice any cliquey groups in this class.
-The students were able to work at their own pace on their nutrition project, so a lot of them did not even have the project done. A lot of them ended up using a homework pass, and were going to turn it in late with the pass.
-The students did not really have to work with each other much on anything, it was mainly lecture, and video.
-Everyone in class watched the Standard Deviance video besides one student that was sitting on his phone all class period with his head down.

Mr. Miller's Chemistry Classes 5/1

Mr. Miller was a very chill guy. He was pretty strict, but he still had a lot of fun with his students. He was always making jokes with them, but he never let anything slid by when it came to doing work. He was very kind, though. He came to me and talked to me about teaching, and he asked me how my day was. None of the other teachers did that at the high school! In Mr. Miller's class the students were balancing equations, doing a lab, and taking a quizzizz(kind of like kahoot.it). The quiz was over balancing equations!

Teacher to Student interactions:
-Mr. Miller was strict, but in a fun way. It seemed like all the students genuinely liked him. One of the first things he said when he came to class was "The front side of the lab needs to be done by 1:20", and it was already 1 when he said that.
-He was very interactive with the students and he would go around and help them all of class, but he also had a lot side conversations and talked about their sports and etc.
-He would randomly throughout class ask if anybody needs help. He seemed like he was very smart at chemistry as well.

Student to Student interactions:
-One of the first things I noticed between the students was that they were all very childish. They were juniors.
-They all were talking about me and the boys were trying to flirt, which makes sense because they are only a couple years younger, but it was very childish.
-The boys that were trying to flirt thought it would be cool to call out a gay girl in the classroom. He said "Are you really dating that girl, Kacie?" and then they proceeded to whisper about her when she said yeah.
-This class tended to be the more cliquey out of the classes I observed.
-It was so sad when Mr. Miller asked the students to get into two people groups for the lab they were doing, and everyone got a partner, then that boy group was 3 boys, so one had to go be her partner. For a solid minute they sat there fighting who was going to go. I'm so sensitive so that broke my heart for her. There is no way that could have felt good.

Mr. Piazza: This class had such a fun, welcoming environment! When you walk in all you see is dancing, singing, energetic kids, and a very expressive/energetic teacher. When I was in this classroom I could not help but smile. This was the first class I observed, so it was a very welcoming start!
Mrs. Swam: This class was a very clam setting because it was a power point and lecture class period. The teacher was very sweet and welcoming, but the students did not have exciting energy!
Mr. Miller: This class was very interesting to observe! This class was very loud all of the time and there were a lot of childish students. I feel like this would be a harder environment to work in, but it was a fun class to be in!

Office Staff and My Experience

-Overall the office staff were super chill and welcoming. When I initially called to set up days and times to observe they told me to just come in whenever and they would pair me up with classes. I was happy to hear that because it just makes it a lot more convenient. The office staff were not ever rude, and I loved how they called someone from the class I was observing to come get me and take me to the class. In my other observations I got lost trying to find the classrooms!
-My experience here was super smooth and fun! I did not have any difficulties with getting signatures, or setting up hours and times, and I thankfully did not get lost. This was a really fun high school to observe! I loved how each of the teachers I got were all very different from each other. I got a little bit of a wider variety that I observed.
