What would have been the impact of halting the spread of nuclear weapons immediately after the Trinity test? Or even after Nagasaki? How do the scientists’ reactions to the dropping of the bombs belie their personal ethics and connect to dual use?

If nuclear weapons development had halted after trinity, then the much bigger bombs would not have been developed during the cold war. Without the threat of total annihilation from these massive bombs, the Cold War might have escalated further. The scientist who believed he should have quit the project shows that he does no believe that bringing the end of the war was worth creating the bomb.

What concerns you the most about nuclear technology in the world today?

My biggest concern is not intentional misuse, but mistakes and human failings. No human or human-designed system is ever 100% reliable, and when that system is designed to ensure the safety of a world-ending bomb, the fact that the potential for failure exists practically guarantees failure over a long enough period of time. There are numerous YouTube videos and articles about the many atomic disasters we nearly avoided aver the last seventy years.
