Harry Potter

1) Harry Potter is many things. Firstly it was in the form of the printed book, a series of 7. Later on, it would become one of the most famous movie series' in the world, breaking multiple records and even moving on to a prequel and sequel series of books and movies.
2) JK Rowling got the idea to write Harry Potter on train travelling from Manchester to Kings Cross Station in London and started writing in the Elephant House Café Edinburgh (now known as the birthplace of Harry Potter) , however the idea would not become a reality until it was published on June 26th 1997 by Scholastic Press. The next books would be published over the course of 8 years (1997 and 2005)
3) JK Rowling (born Joanne Rowling) wrote the book to explore themes of loves, evident throughout the series. Her passion for writing lead to her to exploring the different sources, types and developments of love in the mind of an adolescent Childs coming of age (of course set in a fantasy setting of Hogwarts and Wizards).
4 + 5)Before the Harry Potter series, children’s literature was often an afterthought, with most sales falling. After the success of Harry Potter, many authors had been not only inspired but influenced to write more children’s books, resulting in the children literary category becoming a full mega-seller (sales increased by 52 percent). Not only did J.K Rowling increase the sales in children’s literature overall, but her books also made it possible to publish long works aimed at children. The length of the Harry Potter books, along with the success among children, allowed for publishers to understand that their view that children didn’t have the attention span to read the longer books was false, allowing for the following authors to publish longer.

1984 by George Orwell

The story takes place in the 1984, the world has fallen victim to war, government surveillance, propaganda, and negatinism.

2. Written in 1948, a dystopian classic written by George Orwell, who escaped to a remote scottish island to create the masterpiece that 1984.

3. When writing 1984, George Orwell set out to warn the public of the serious threat that is totalitarianism poses to society, going to great lengths to demonstrate the dangerous degree of power a totalitarian regime/ideal can acquire.

4 and 5) Orwell wrote this as one of the most influential works to have existed, one of the books that are a classic in the dystopian genre. Orwell used themes of oppression, totalitarian surveilance and the freedom of thought, showing how speech can be oppressed through what can seem innocent at first glance. Orwell drew parallels from the communist governments of his time, and shows how different concepts cannot exist without the loss of another in society; for example, the proles are free but constantly risk danger (an allegory to living outside of the confines of society in a way, even if they do make up the majority of the population of Oceania), the Outer party has total surveilance and control as a trade off for relative safety (showing how in the name of public safety one might tighten restrictions until control is inevitable) and the Inner party has utmost luxury at the cost of ultimate loyalty. The methods that Orwell talks of in this book are still spoken of today, and play an important role in cultural and anti-censorship protests and activism; for example, language control, "doublespeak", thoughtcrime are all concepts that are reflected in our society, the last one more than others. Other things, such as how the governments of Oceania constantly trade wars with superpowers, people not batting an eye when they are told of it; Emmanuel Goldstien's 2 minute of hate, and the crowd mentality through which the government controls the people are all important themes. Doublespeak, for instance, is often used in politics when a politician or institution attempts to mislead. Many other things such as tthe control of people with excessive propoganda, while not necessarily seen in states other than North Korea or totalitarian states of the sort, still show how powerful social media is a tool in our day and age as a vector for spreading these thoughts. Other messages, such as two plus two equals five are iconic lines that have influenced our culture to this date.

It became one of the main programmatic texts of the European socialist and communist parties in the 19th and 20th centuries.

2. The communist manifesto was written 1847 and was written by Marx in Brussels and published at Bishopsgate in the City of London.

3. Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels were both German philosophers, economists, political theorists and socialist revolutionaries. Their purpose when writing the communist manifesto was to argue that capitalism would inevitably self-destruct, and was to be replaced by socialism and ultimately communism.

4. The communist manifesto shared a new theory on the nature of politics and society specifically the working class struggles by suggesting once the working class gains control class warfare would cease to exist creating a utopian vision. It sparked political revolution by uniting workers throughout the world and impacted the political spectrum with positives and negatives.

5. It changed the economic system and power structure within European countries, and it has influenced the spread of global capital and the revolution in technology. It essentially explained the function and evolution of exploitative social class structure, which consisted of many inequities as a result of the rise of capitalism as an economic system. It also challenged political and social order, and contributed greatly to the working-class movement.
