Soil Salinization

Soil salinization occurs when salt levels in the root zone become too high, often due to poor irrigation, high evaporation, or inadequate drainage. This process slows crop growth and can render land unsuitable for cultivation.

Soil Acidification

A drop in soil pH increases acidity, often caused by improper crop or fertilizer selection. Acidification disrupts soil microorganisms, reducing nutrient cycling and land productivity. It also weakens soil structure, accelerating degradation.

Organic Matter Loss

Dehumification, or the loss of organic matter, reduces soil stability and fertility. Organic matter binds soil particles together, and its depletion leads to erosion and nutrient loss, making the land more vulnerable to degradation.

Soil Compaction

Excessive soil density, often due to repeated use of heavy machinery, prevents plant roots from growing properly. While optimal soil density is around 1.2 t/m³, modern agricultural practices have increased it to 1.4–1.5 t/m³, severely affecting crop development.

Students Luka M., Pavle S., Nikola N. investigated eco-problems in their area Apelovac : emissions, industrial activity and heating during winter contribute poor air quality and health problems like respiratory and cardiovascular diseases. The neighborhood also struggles with waste management due to limited recycling facilities and inconsistent waste collection, resulting in unauthorized dumping and environmental hazards. Urbanization in my city has led to the loss of green spaces, contributing to ecological imbalances and reduced recreational areas. Increased construction causes noise, traffic congestion, and environmental degradation. Moreover, the aging infrastructure struggles to meet the needs of a growing population , causing water shortages and waste management problems. To address these challenges, local authorities must prioritize sustainable urban planning, invest in modern, eco-friendly infrastructure, and promote cleaner technologies like electric public transport. Expanding recycling programs, improving waste management, and creating more green spaces are vital for a sustainable future. Community involvement in environmental protection is also crucial for lasting change, making it possible to improve the quality of life in my area Apelovac.
