Outdoor is an incredible organization that students and their families can become involved in. There is a large disparity between low-income and people of color and their access to beautiful outdoor spaces to explore. This excellent organization takes this issue head on to provide programs and corporate partners to help lessen this disparity. When communities are completely left out of beautiful outdoor spaces it makes it hard to see why we should take the effort to save them. By showing students and their families where they can go to appreciate and enjoy nature they naturally become more invested in the conservation and preservation of these spaces.

Often time insects are regarded as pests and a part of nature we don't want to involve ourselves with. By featuring this book in my unit of study we can begin the discussion of the importance of insects and how it relates to composting and other climate solutions.

There are so many items we have that break or we think we are finished using them and they end up in a landfill. Reading the book, "Kenya's Art" by Linda Trice and Hazel Mitchell shows students that we can find ways to repurpose our things and avoid contributing to landfills.
