The president and his equivalent were Hutus.  The Hutus believed that the RPF(a group of people that were banned from Rwanda) shot it down.   
Where?:This genocide took place in Africa. 
When: This genocide happened in 1994.
How long did it last?:This genocide lasted for around a hundred days from April 6th to July 18th.

"Lists of government opponents were handed out to militias who went and killed them, along with all of their families." These two quotes say that militias were the most common way of killing people in this genocide. Militias were ordered to kill government rivals and their families that were on a hit list that they had been given. Secondly, that same article from before states that, "Neighbours killed neighbours and some husbands even killed their Tutsi wives, saying they would be killed if they refused." For the Hutus this was a easy way to get the kill count even higher. A death threat is one of the most evil and toxic threats you could ever give to someone. Finally, Frank Spadling, the author of a book called Genocide in Rwanda emphasizes that,  "Grenades were tossed at the Tutsi hiding in the church, and they were shot at. Then the killers moved in with clubs and machetes, killing anyone who still survived inside." The Hutus took a lot of extra steps to make sure they got the job done. They wanted to eliminate all of the Tutsi.

On April 21, as the crisis deepened, the UN voted to reduce UNAMIR’s presence in the country from 2,500 troops to 270." The United Nations tried to make peace but were unsuccessful. Sadly the problen intensified over time causing the UN to reduce the peacekeeping troops in the area. Next, an article about this genocide called the Rwanda genocide: 100 days of slaughter claims that, "The French, who were allies of the Hutu government, sent a special force to evacuate their citizens and later set up a supposedly safe zone but were accused of not doing enough to stop the slaughter in that area. Paul Kagame, Rwanda's current president, has accused France of backing those who carried out the massacres - a charge denied by Paris." The reason that the current president of Rwanda(Paul Kagame) has blamed France may be because of the fact that the French were allies with the Hutu Government. Lastly, An article called The Rwandan Genocide reports that, "...the United States also refused to take any counteraction against the Interahamwe, military or otherwise; the United States later claimed it was not fully aware of the true severity of the situation despite strong evidence to the contrary." The U.S did not do anything to help stop the Genocide.
