The conflict that takes place in this chapter starts when Rashad goes into the convience store and a lady bumps into him, causing her beer bottle to break. The cop and the clerk assume that Rashad is trying to steal chips so the cop handcuffs him and again, accuses Rashad of resisting even though he is in pain. Paul, the cop, is the clear antagonist of this chapter. He forcefully handcuffs Rashad due to an assumption. The protagonist on the other hand, is unclear.

I agree with Niyah! The conflict regarding Rashad's arrest at the convenience store leaves officer Paul (I don't remember his last name) as the antagonist. It is easy to assume Rashad is the protagonist though to me he hasn't done anything to really earn the title protagonist. Just because the cop is the antagonist doesn't mean Rashad is the protagonist.

The ending was very emotional overall! The fact that they had a die-in, which was unexpected, was crazy. Rashad didn’t get sleep and took his bandage off when he woke up showing that this was important to him. The dramatic event that really got to me was once Quinn and Rashad made eye contact which had meaning behind it. Quinn wanted Rashad to know that “I saw him, a guy who, even with a teat streaked face, seemed to to have two tiny smiles framing his eyes like parentheses...” and that “Rashad Butler. [is] Present.” After all they went through througout the book, they would always try their best to help eachother (in Quinn’s case anyway).

I agree with Niyah about the fact that the ending was very emotional. Knowing that earlier in the book Quinn and Rashad didn't know each other, it was emotional to see their reactions when they finally saw one another.
I could also imagine how hard a "die-in" would be for Rashad considering he would have to relive that traumatic experience of his arrest.
I really wish however I was able to see how this case would've held up in court. These kinds of situations are very tricky and often the cops end up getting off scotch free so It would've been nice to know what the result of it was.
