1. Look at the person to your left. Look at the person to your right. Inevitably at some point one of these people will try to take your usual seat!
2. Sometimes you just have to hit submit.
3. When it comes to groups, a positive attitude is contagious, so are negative ones.
4. Start studying now for FIN II final…here is a HINT, it probably won’t help much :(
5. DO NOT use movie quotes to make your point because “Life moves pretty fast, if you don’t stop to look around once in a while, you could miss it”

I hope you all enjoy your time as much as I did.
Good Luck
Be LEGENDARY!

1. Repeat after me "Get comfortable with being uncomfortable". Get out of your comfort zone, walk up to the person who you normally would avoid, strike up a conversation.. you will be surprised at how much you have in common.
2. There are no dumb questions or every question is dumb... either way, ask it!
3. Do not let Prof. Jose Liberati scare you. M&A will be the best class you will ever have taken! Also, your most challenging.
4. You cannot multi-task between electives and work. Take the time off in advance. You will thank yourself (and me).
5. If you've taken Fin 1 and Fin 2, that's half the battle won. Take Fin 3 - its the best of the Fin's ! And yes, start studying for Fin 2 now... though, it really wouldn't matter.
6. Free time ? what's that?!!
7. Oh and start meeting with your career coaches as early as possible instead of after something bad happens (job loss, promotion passed over etc). You will learn just how valuable their insights are. It is also great to have someone who is always looking out for you.

The past 2 years have been my most challenging years and the most rewarding. I hope you all have the same, wonderful experience as I did and are able to build long lasting friendships. Wish you all the very best!

Open your minds and let the learning begin!

While you will learn immense amounts of information from your professors, the course content, a lot of the immediately applicable learning is from your team members. Make it a priority to establish a dedicated cadence to meeting - even if you don't have an assignment due (even better, talk about life, work, etc).

Start networking with your cohort and others immediately, it's amazing what can be accomplished in 2 years.

Dropping classes doesn't save money - get the most out of your experience, especially the challenging classes.

Support one another, I agree with the other post here - it's contagious, and it helps everyone.

Enjoy!

Welcome to an experience that could change the trajectory of your career, life, etc. The rest is really up to you. Everything you need to succeed will be provided. But my advice to take advantage of it is:
1. You get out of this program what you put in. Invest in the work, invest MORE in the people you meet, and invest time, energy, & patience with your group. 2 years will go by quickly so you should decide how much you want to get out of this experience and invest that amount time, energy, and participation.
2. No matter how it may look on the surface, everyone is struggling to balance things just like you are. It's okay to have a tough day/week. Bounce back.
3. Take FIN 3
4. Take seriously your engagement with the career coaches. At some point you will need their skills and help with an opportunity or in a time of need. Start building your relationship with them ahead of that time.
5. Read the syllabus before you ask questions about what you need to do in a class. The rest of your cohort will thank you.
6. If you have specific skills you want to be better at aggressively seek out opportunities in class work or electives to do that. Communicate that to your team so they can help you too.
7. Agree on a regular time with your team regularly and hold that time sacred. Don't cancel if you don't have work: get to know your EMBA family.
8. If the choice is keep working on homework or hang out, go out, late lounge with your cohort: be done with the homework. Later in life when you need help, these are the people you will call. Create strong bonds and shared experiences.

Enjoy your time. It is a blast and it goes fast!! Welcome to the family.

As part of EMBA 128, you are the new torch bearers of the Executive MBA Program at Kellogg. Your cohort and EMBA experience will only be as strong as you collectively decide to make it. Your actions, no matter how small or large, make an impact on those around you and collectively you will establish your cohort’s reputation that will remain with you over this two-year journey and beyond.

Pro Q-Tips:
- Treat every day at Kellogg as a gift
- Stretch your personal boundaries
- Open up to one another
- Get to know everyone
- Class weekends are for networking
- Late Lounge is critical
- Pull your weight in every class
- Use your career coach
- Leave work at work; it won't miss you
- Make time for your family and yourself
- Offer to teach your cohort new skills
- Never pass up an opportunity to go out
- The Kellogg Network is really powerful

Lastly, you will only get what you put into the program and you should maximize every inch of opportunity that Kellogg and Northwestern have to offer you.

In closing the last two years went by quickly. Never pass up a chance to talk to someone new because you never know where it might lead you. If you can go all in, honestly assess yourself, and desire to improve, then the Kellogg EMBA experience will be truly transformational for you and your cohort. Be a leader and take the first step to show others the way. Good luck!

Get ready for your life to change! This has been such a transformational experience, anchored in friendships and learning but also growing self awareness and confidence. I’m excited for the journey you are on.

- Be open to the universe. Something unexpected is likely to happen so just be ready.

- Find ways to really connect. Late lounges are a must, and even introverts can do it! There is no better way to network and truly make friends. Pizza at midnight always works.

- Be kind to yourself. Sometimes the paper isn’t an A+ and yes Fin 2 is really hard. But if you’re learning, it’s worth it.

- Your study group is your ride or die. Be kind to them as well!!!

- Speaking of kindness, the Allen Center staff are the best.

Embrace it, go all in, and have no regrets. This time is precious!
