In the Kindergarten Standards of Excellence for Social Studies, they learn about all the major holidays and the standard states: SSKH1 Identify the national holidays and describe the people and/or events celebrated. The holidays included are: Christmas, Columbus Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, Memorial Day, New Year’s Day, Presidents Day, Thanksgiving Day, Veterans Day. Each post highlights one of these holidays and there is a resource attached to help students learn and interact in a fun way. It shows the symbol for Veterans day by showing a young girl whose mom is a hero because she is in the military. The book shows multiple military jobs so the students will be able to see different aspects of what it means to be a Veteran and serve in the military.
