People immigrate from all over the world to come in the USA. Among those, we have refugees fleeing conflicts, international students pursuing their desire of better education, other immigrants seeking for American dream... They come from countries that doesn't speak English or a broken one. Study in America is a obviously a challenging experience for them as they need to get accustom to the new culture and learn the language to communicate. While some of them excel very well in their new learning environment, most are still facing struggles at some point or another. Study here means to deal with an unfamiliar culture adjustment, academic challenges, and social isolation.

Exploring and understanding learning challenges of new immigrant learners is a complex issue that requires an interdisciplinary approach as no science on its own has been able to explain and correct the issue. Students are grounded in a particular culture and embed in them some societal norms and values that will interfere with their learning effort. For instance, passing TOEFL to prove the level of English fluency is a requirement for international students and the language barrier can be an issue. Having problem to communicate with staff, professor and peers will consequently engender isolation when it comes to discussing in group activities. Immigrants have to integrate their old way of thinking with the new one they are learning. Having a cultural , an educational and psychological approach to this fact will make it better understood and beneficial to thousands of immigrants we receive every year.

Peggy McIntosh, reports from the discipline of sociology and she argues that a teacher's way of thinking can greatly influence a child's learning experience. She further talks about monoculturalism and how that affects white educators as a whole. Miles Anthony Irving is reporting from the discipline of education and psychology. He believes that a teacher's beliefs are grounded in their values. He says it is important for a teacher to be aware of their own biases in order to better connect to their students. Carrie Ball and W. Finch write from the background of education. They argue that teacher influence affects behavior outcomes in the classroom. Each differs in the perspective that they are taking. McIntosh and Irving are looking at the classroom effects from a societal view and Ball and Finch are focused on the internal practices in a classroom.

According to Hartshorn in the discipline of Education and Sociology the numbers of ESL students enrolled in universities in the US is increasing and this phenomena is not without precedence. We all know that ESL students are the easiest to recognize among the others as recent newcomers to the international school community. They are also pictured as students without a word of English. Scholars have indicated that
reading skill is vital to academic success, particularly for ESL learners ( e.g.,Anderson 2015; Anderson, Evans, & Hartshorn, 2014; Horowitz, 1986; Johns, 1981). They point out that learning like many others activities involves a complex set of skills that requires practice. Teachers would not spend the time they do to teach it if they did not value reading. It is so essential that they often overlook the fundamental reading skills. It may sometimes seems as easy as a, b ,c but in fact they are strategic ways to make students reading more useful and productive
In the discipline of Sociology, wang states that recruiting International Students( IS) to US colleges should engender friendships across international lines with new perspectives and personal connection. But this is not the case. Why do IS avoid communicating with Americans? communication issues appear to be one factor in friendship. He says, succesful oral communication depends on speaking skill.Speaking refers to the actions of constructing meanings in spoken language .It is also an interactive process that involves receiving, processing, and producing information ( Brown, Saeed, Khaksari, Eng & Ghani, 2016).
In the discipline of counseling Zhang Yi insists on the fact that Academic Advisor is considered as a leader helping students. They provide IS with the information they need to meet their educational goals. He argues that to improve the students’ participation in academic advising, community college leaders and practitioners need to develop deeper knowledge about factors that can encourage students to consult with advisors and causes that may prevent them from seeking academic advising. He highlights the importance of changing the students in an adjustment mode. And how counselors can relate knowledge into practice.
In the discipline of education , Halassa Najwa argues that the use of native language allows for the explanation of complex grammatical concepts, especially ones which do not exist in the speakers native. He believes that students gain a quicker ability to read and write in their second language when they are taught using their native language.
All the informations gathered from the articles of each discipline are related. First they are all talking about International students, then how learning a second language can be a frustrating experience. At the end how these students struggled with not only reading but also listening and speaking to others.
