Him and Adnan were acquaintances, and he, to my knowledge, does not have close relation to Hae. Voluntarily confessing to being an accessory to murder you would think Jay has a solid story. But he doesn't. His story was constantly changing, and this was only one example. A piece of evidence as important as how long you have known about the murder is crucial. You would remember this if you were told this. Your impression of them is bound to change. Asia wrote a letter claiming she saw Adnan when Adnan is supposedly killing Hae, she would not lie about this. There is a slim chance she wrote it with the impression that Adnan killed Hae. She wrote this to help him. Asia, or anyone, would not write an affidavit if she did not think he was innocent. Adnan and Asia were just classmates. There was no secret bias or reason to why she wrote this. This and many other entries shows they had little conflict in their relationship and was purely teen love.  Though there are arguments, Hae never writes anything about Adnan physically hurting her. It is evident that their relationship was not toxic through Hae's diary. We can see that she loved him and can assume there was no grudge within the relationship. Even after the relationship ended. Following Hae getting a new boyfriend, she is still calling Adnan for help when she has car troubles. A friend of Adnan's says he was seeing other girls as well following the breakup, showing he was not hung up on Hae.
