MINERAL INSULATION
Air, glass, wool, plastic, polyester, paper, rubber are examples of good insulators.
We can reduce heat loss from a building/house by using insulating materials. The cheapest way is drought proofing in which plastic is used to cover windows, secondly, double glazing of windows is also effective but costly. In double glazing, air is trapped and it acts as an insulator not allowing outside air to enter or exit!

Insulation types include loose fill, batts, rolls, foam board, spray board and vapor barriers. To insulate our house we can start at the roof as hot air rises, so we can place fiber glass there with air sockets, because air is a terrible conductor of heat, same we can do with walls and put foam b/w them and with window we can put a lot of plastic strips that way the heat will not be able to escape

Materials commonly found in insulation are fiberglass, cellulose, and rock wool. A variety of different types of home insulation exist including: batts and blankets, loose-fill, plastic foam, rigid boards, and reflective. ... Cellulose insulation is a fire-resistant material made from a combination of treated recycled paper and wood. It gained popularity in the 1970s when recycling was first introduced to the public. Insulators are made of wet, processed porcelain. The fundamental materials used are a mixture of feldspar (35%), china clay (28%), flint (25%), ball clay (10%), and talc (2%). The ingredients are mixed with water. The resulting mixture has the consistency of putty or paste and is pressed into a mold to form a shell of the desired shape. Types of Insulators. There are several types of insulators but the most commonly used are pin type, suspension type, strain insulator and shackle insulator.

Thermal insulation usually refers to the use of appropriate insulation materials and design adaptations for buildings to slow the transfer of heat through the enclosure to reduce heat loss and gain. The transfer of heat is caused by the temperature difference between indoors and outdoors. Heat may be transferred either by conduction, convection, or radiation. The rate of transmission is closely related to the propagating medium. Heat is lost or gained by transmission through the ceilings, walls, floors, windows, and doors.

In today's lesson I learnt that there are three types of insulation: mineral, synthetic and bio source. Mineral insulation is made of natural materials, such as volcanic rock, glass and sand. These materials are industrially transformed to produce wool. While this method may be cheap and fire resistant, it requires a lot of energy consumption and it releases carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. Synthetic insulation is created from crude oil, a non renewable energy source, meaning this method has a strong ecological impact. The final method, bio source insulation, is made from plant and animal based materials and is thus very eco-friendly, however it is also expensive . I also learnt that there are many ways to insulate homes. We lose heat through roofs, walls, windows and doors. Methods of insulation are: loft insulation (made of fiber glass, on roof), cavity wall insulation (made of foam with tiny air pockets, in wall cavities), double glazing (for windows) and draught proof (made from plastic sort of strips, used on windows and doors).

For example the roofs of our houses are the warmest part of the hoise as warm air rises upwards and we can insulate air house using something like fiber glass as air is a bad conductor of heat and its so small that there are no convection currents formed which reduces conduction. For our walls, we can use something like the cavity wall insulation and double glazing for windows. All these ways can help in the insulation of houses or buildings.

Today I learned about three different types of insulation materials the first one being mineral insulation which can be easily made from natural resources such as sand etc l. It is cheap and fire resistant but if you are handling it remember to use mask, gloves and protective glasses. Second type is synthetic insulation which is made from crude oil and an example is polyurethane. He advantages of this type of insulation are its strong cost and its powerful insulating abilities though it comes at a price of that it's made from non renewable resources. The third type is bio source insulation which is made from plant and animal related material such as the wool of sheeps. It can easily be manufactured and is the best with bringing low economical change but is manufactured in small amounts and therefore is expensive. From the second video I learned multiple ways to reduce energy cost and transfer heat. Due to convection warm air rises towards the roof which is where we use loft insulation made from fiber glass that traps alot of air which is good since air is a bad conductor of heat and air is trapped in such small particles that it stops the formation of convection currents. Then we go to the walls which have a big cavity so we use cavity wall insulation which also traps air. Then the windows where we can use double glazing which stops heat from going outside and the cheapest method draught insulation. We place sort of strips around the windows and doors which stops all hot air from escaping.

Fatima hussain
Ive learned about the different type of insulations. There is a very interesting and good insulating material called foam glass it is 95 percent made of recycled glass actually and can be used on its own or as an aggregate in concrete. Developing a primary good to a completely made good requires alot of energy and then releases CO2 into the air. These type of insulation can cause alot of irritation so its very important to use masks gloves and glasses

A variety of different types of home insulation exist including: batts and blankets, loose-fill, plastic foam, rigid boards, and reflective.Thermal insulation of a particular building can be done by putting fiber glass on the roof, adding foam in between wall gaps and double glazing the windows. It helps as air gets trapped and convection can't take place which means no conduction
