Everything should be in moderation. There is always a harmonious balance to all things in the universe, and although free trade is a man-made concept, it should still apply to the idea of balance.

If we engage in protectionism, then we would have to stop buying oil from the middle East. If nobody buys from the Middle East, then the region will become stable. There are a lot of benefits to free trade in terms of efficiency for individuals, but another thing to consider is...history! Wow! Trade with other countries and cultures gives people awareness of the rest of the world that they might not have had otherwise. For example...okay, never mind. But you know how like back in the day Europeans were all like, gross, get these weird Muslims off our continent? Without the economic motivations of trade, they probably would have stopped contact with the middle east. You know what was in the middle east because the middle easterns had it for centuries? ANCIENT TEXTS??????

okay fam we wouldn't have had a lot of things if it wasn't for trade por ejemplo free trade stopped france and britain from going to war over the nile river I think we should all be grateful for that

Competition often turns destructive, because firms end up doing ridiculous and detrimental things for short-term gains internationally. Free trade only makes this more viable.

In order for our economy to grow, and for the economies of other countries to grow, we need to engage in international trade. The reason why many developing countries revolt is because they are poorer. Free trade not only allows us to specialize which will pave the way for maximum profit (the goal of all production) but its gives consumers more diversity in the foods they eat, the clothes they wear, and it increases aggregate demand which increases GDP growth.

Does having your shirt made in Budapest really increase your cultural awareness? I would contend that trade actually erases culture; just look at how Africa becomes an industrialized duplicate of the West, minus the priveledge.
