Today, the Dame Lorraine traditional character appears as a female dressed in the style of a rich planter’s wife. However, in the beginning, the Dame Lorraine was not a single character. In fact, the Dame Lorraine was a collective of characters who took part in an elaborate skit or parody of these early French Planters. Long ago, this theatrical performance would take place on Dimanche Gras.

The Dame Lorraine poked fun not only at the elaborate festivities of the rich planters but also their physical infirmities. The name of each character was in French Creole. These names were very descriptive and pinpointed certain bodily defects. At one time, the big bottom and the big breasts were worn by separate characters. Today, both are combined into one outfit, worn by one character. In the past, mostly men portrayed Dame Lorraines. As of late, mostly women portray the character.

During the Carnival of the late 19th century,the character of Baby Doll became shared and commonly known sight to locals.It portrays a satirical portrait of a mother with an illegitimate baby.They used a doll as their "baby" and played the part of a single mother.To add some realness an humor to this character,the masquerader stops male passers-by and members of the audience, accusing them of fathering the child, then shaming them into paying money for milk, clothing, and other necessities, or simply to stop accusing them.A frilled dress exposing her legs,gloves and a huge poke bonnet or mob cap are frequently used by the masquerader to impersonate a younger woman.

The Jab Molassie is also known for jumping around wildly and scaring bystanders with their sudden movements. An optional addition to the costume is to have a chain tied around the waist for another character to restrain the Jab Molassie.

Today in class we did gestures. Gestures is basically responding with actions/movements. We performed different actions that our teacher gave us. I learnt the different gestures in case I am

unable to express myself using words. Some of the different gestures

were: thumbs up, jumping up and down, covering your mouth with

your hand, nodding up and down and

nodding left to right. The activities that we did helped me to understand what gestures was all about. My favorite part was when we were all out on break out rooms and had to pick a scenario and act it out. I totally enjoyed class with Ms Ramjit as the topic was fun, new and interesting

This is basically about answering someone when they speak to you, without saying anything.
The class was placed into different break out rooms to work together and come up with simple Gestures.
I couldn't wait to pursue my group's Gesture, the entire class including Ms. Ramjit was bubbling about with excitement.
We did our part and she said that the entire class did an excellent job.
