While teachers are attending to other students during toileting routine, the child often jumps and stands on the table when nobody's looking. When caught by his teacher, his teacher would nicely ask him to step down and talk to him 1-1 about his behaviours before he rejoined back with the class routine.

Occasionally, his friends would also laugh or make remarks like “you are so brave”. The teacher reported such behaviours to happen at least 3 times a week.

The teacher is worn out from reinforcing consequences due to the repeated challenging situations. Often, the teacher feels, 'I've done everything I could.'

1.Why do you think teacher’s past interventions have not been effective?

2.What other strategies can we adopt and implement?

I have a child in my class who has difficulty controlling her emotions. For example, when she wants something and her friend does not give it to her, she would have a major meltdown where she would cry, lay on the floor, and stomp her feet.

On occasion, she would also bite and hit herself OR her teachers. When that happens, her teachers would rush to her and hold her hands. They would scold her and tell her not to do that again.

The child has already undergone assessment but was deemed fine by the assessor.

What are some strategies that can be used to help her?

I use pictures cards, rewards such as stickers and their favourite toys to gain the child attention. I do this consistently and get the co teachers such as the mother tongue teachers to dothe same strategy as me.
