How do we tell our stories?
"We tell people to follow their dreams, but you can only dream of what you imagine, and depending on where you come from, your imagination can be quite limited."
When we tell our stories we incorporate some imagination into them. Stories about our dreams are also filled with some imagination.

How do others play a part in our stories?
"My mom did what school didn't. She taught me how to think."
Those in our lives such as idols always inspire us and there is a reason they are our idols. They teach us things or help us grow up and ready us for the world.

How do we allow others to tell our stories?
"I'd walk through the house on the way to my room and say, 'Hey, Mom' without glancing up. She'd say, 'No, Trevor! You look at me. You acknowledge me. Show me that I exist to you because the way you treat me is the way you will treat your woman."
Noah's mom told him a short life lesson and he shared it with us. She allowed him to share it by making it a big deal and telling him how important it was so he felt the need to share it as well.

Why do we allow others to tell our stories?
"Just because it's not happening to you doesn't mean it's not happening."
We allow others to tell our stories to spread awareness about certain things. If we want to bring attention to a certain issue we've experienced, we tell our story with others hoping they tell more people and the issue gets solved.

How can our life experiences help us choose our purpose?
"My mom raised me as if there were no limitations on where I could go or what I could do. When I look back, I realize she raised me like a white kid - not white culturally, but in the sense of believing that the world was my oyster..."
Noah's experiences of growing up differently influenced him to write his book and talk about racism.

How can our purpose help us experience life?
"I became a chameleon. My color didn't change but I could change your perception of my color."
Noah's chameleon nature has helped him experience different ways of life. He could speak many languages which could help him fit in with different groups giving him various experiences.

How does our purpose affect everything around us?
"People thought my mom was crazy. Ice rinks and drive-ins and suburbs, these things were izinto zabelungu -- the things of white people. ... 'Because,' she would say, 'even if he never leaves the ghetto, he will know that the ghetto is not the world.'"
This shows how the purpose of Noah's mother was to make sure he knows that there is more to the world than "the ghetto." Her purpose affected him by helping him understand that the whole world isn't the same.

How does our purpose affect our journey and our destination?
"I wasn't popular, but I wasn't an outcast. I was everywhere with everybody, and at the same time I was all by myself."
This shows how his purpose made his journey unique. He experienced different things such as loneliness and companionship at the same time.

Into the Wild

How do we tell our stories?
"Having neglected to pack writing paper, he began a laconic journal on some blank pages in the back of Tanaina Plantlore."
We tell our stories in many ways but McCandless specifically shared his through his journal entries. He would log days in his journal of specific events that occurred and that is how he told his story. If he didn't do this, nobody would know what had happened to him.

How do others play a part in our stories?
"Happiness is only real when shared."
This quote shows the importance of companionship in our lives. Others can play the role of a friend that we can share our emotions and connect with. We feel real happiness when sharing it with others.

How do we allow others to tell our stories?
"EXTREMELY WEAK, FAULT OF POT. SEED. MUCH TROUBLE JUST TO STAND UP. STARVING. GREAT JEOPARDY."
McCandless allowed others to tell his story by recording his end in a journal. When he was found, people shared the journal and now many know of the story of Chris McCandless.

Why do we allow others to tell our stories?
"He was unheeded, happy, and near to the wild heart of life. He was alone and young and willful and wild-hearted, alone amid a waste of wild air and brackish waters and the sea harvest of shells and tangled and veiled grey sunlight."
We allow others to tell our stories because we want everyone to understand us as people. By having others share my story and feelings, more people can understand my point of view and relate with me.

How can our life experiences help us choose our purpose?
"The joy of life comes from our encounters with new experiences..."
As we live, we experience many things and learn our likes and dislikes and what we're good at and what we're not. New experiences expose us to more things for us to figure out if we enjoy them. Once we find that thing we enjoy, it can help us choose our purpose.

How can our purpose help us experience life?
"It is the experiences, the memories, the great triumphant joy of living to the fullest extent in which real meaning is found."
We encounter and experience many things while pursuing our purpose and those experiences help us understand our lives. Whatever your purpose is, it makes you learn and experience things while you're trying to achieve it. Those experiences are to help us understand our lives.

How does our purpose affect everything around us?
"...adopt a helter-skelter lifestyle of life that will first appear to you to be crazy. But once you become accustomed to such a life you will see its full meaning and its incredible beauty."
This quote shows how our purpose affects everything around us from our perspective. If we find our purpose and follow it in a certain lifestyle, we will see the true beauty of the things around us.

How does our purpose affect our journey and our destination?
"Two years he walks the earth. No phone, no pool, no pets, no cigarettes. Ultimate freedom. An extremist. An aesthetic voyager whose home is the road."
Our purpose affects our experiences on our journey. McCandless' purpose made him want to live in the wild and live off the resources of the earth. His destination also would've been completely different if he stayed at home with his family.

How do we tell our stories?
"To you I am bound for life and education: My life and education both do learn me how to respect you. You are the lord of duty, I am hitherto your daughter."
We tell our stories by explaining what we are and where we come from. We explain our duties, responsibilities, and purpose as our story.

How do others play a part in our stories?
"Thus do I ever make my fool my purse, for I mine own gained knowledge should profane."
In Iago's story, others play the part of pawns to him. He uses them for his own gain to benefit his plot of revenge on Othello.

How do we allow others to tell our stories?
"[Iago] I bleed sir, but not killed. [Othello] I am not sorry neither; I'd have thee live, for in my sense 'tis happiness to die."
Othello allowed Iago to share his story by keeping him alive and not killing him out of hate. He said it was better to die so he wanted Iago alive and by doing this Iago can share his story as he continues to live.

Why do we allow others to tell our stories?
"The Moor is of a free and open nature that thinks men honest that but seem to be so, and will as tenderly be led by th' nose as asses are."
We allow others to tell our stories to put an image of us in others' heads. What is shared from our stories gives others an idea of what we are like. We allow others to share our stories to build a good reputation for ourselves.

How can our life experiences help us choose our purpose?
"In personal suit to make me his lieutenant, off-capped to him; and by the faith of man, I know my price, I am worth no worse a place. … Non-suits my mediators. For 'Certes', says he, 'I have already chosen my officer.'"
Othello's decision to make someone else his lieutenant rather than the highly recommended Iago makes Iago upset. This experience influenced Iago to make it his purpose to have revenge on Othello.

How can our purpose help us experience life?
"In Cassio's lodging I will lose this napkin."
Iago's purpose was to have his revenge on Othello and this motivated him to take action against others. He experienced life through lies and evil intentions like framing others.

How does our purpose affect everything around us?
"I follow him to serve my turn upon him."
Iago made it his purpose to have revenge on Othello and in doing so he ruined the lives of many of those around him. The lies he came up with in following his purpose ruined many relationships and even resulted in some dead.

How does our purpose affect our journey and our destination?
"Do it not with poison. Strangle her in her bed, even the bed she hath contaminated."
Our purpose affects our journey by giving us experiences that ultimately lead to the destination. Iago's journey of lies and violence led to his destination of being captured.

How do we tell our stories?
"I don't live in either my past or my future. I'm interested only in the present."
We tell stories about our past and explain the journey we went on in detail. We focus on our present but keep our previous journeys in mind and share them with others who have yet to begin to follow their dream.

How do others play a part in our stories?
"Sometimes I appear in the form of a solution or a good idea. At other times a crucial moment, I make it easier for things to happen."
Others can either play as a mentor, friends, or an obstacle. Some assist us on our journey while some prevent us from achieving our goals.

How do we allow others to tell our stories?
"The alchemist picked up a book that someone in the caravan had brought. Leafing through the pages, he found a story about Narcissus. The alchemist knew the legend of Narcissus, a youth who knelt daily beside a lake to contemplate his own beauty."
We allow others to tell our stories by writing about them or sharing them ourselves. Narcissus' story can be shared by others now since his story was written in a book.

Why do we allow others to tell our stories?
"When we strive to become better than we are, everything around us becomes better too."
By allowing others to tell our stories, we give others an understanding of our lives. They may see others' lives and feel inspired to change their life.

How can our life experiences help us choose our purpose?
"It's the simple things in life that are the most extraordinary; only wise men are able to understand them."
The "simple things" in our lives are some things we experience along with other instances. As we experience life, we begin to dream and have a certain goal in mind. If we can understand our experiences we can understand and choose our purpose.

How can our purpose help us experience life?
"Before a dream is realized, the Soul of the World tests everything that was learned along the way."
Our purpose or dream which we follow comes with many experiences along the way. As we pursue our purpose, we learn lessons and face obstacles that give us the experience of life.

How does our purpose affect everything around us?
"And, when you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you achieve it."
When you realize your purpose and pursue it in hope of achieving it, the universe helps you and puts things in your favor. It may change things around us or cause certain things to happen to help you realize your purpose.

How does our purpose affect our journey and our destination?
"The boy told himself that, on the way toward realizing his own Perosnal Legend he had learned all he needed to know, and had experienced everything he might have dreamed of."
For the boy's journey to realize find his purpose or Personal Legend, he learned many things about the world and about alchemy and ended up back where he started. This is unique to him and someone with a different purpose is going to experience different things and maybe end up in a totally different destination.
