The question at the heart of this story turns on what Martin Luther King Jr. called “the appalling silence of the good people.” Is it just as bad to see someone get mistreated and not act as it is to be the bully? The villain is Griffin Connelly, a smooth operator with a megawatt smile and a dark heart, who regularly receives the back of his father's hand and passes along the abuse to any “sick gazelles” he finds at Bellport Central Middle School. When new student Eric refuses to play lapdog, he becomes the target. The strength of Preller's (Along Came Spider ) narrative lies in how well he orchestrates Eric's response—he knows there is no easy answer and that going to adults is not always the best thing to do. As he wrestles with his conscience, Eric is befriended by Mary, a classmate making her own stand against malicious teasing. Plenty of kids will see themselves in these pages, making for painful, if important, reading. The resolution, though realistic, may leave some dissatisfied, as the bully moves on but never gets the comeuppance he so richly deserves. Ages 10–up. (Oct.) --Staff (Reviewed November 2, 2009) (Publishers Weekly, vol 256, issue 44, p54)

I agree with this book review, the writer of the review explains what plot and doesn't give anything away. He also gets to mention that griffins dad abuses him which is very important to the reason he bully's kids. Reading this book can sometimes be painful and sad, he mentions that in his review. But he also leaves you wanting to read the book which is a good thing, considering I think this book is a great source of teaching kids not to bully or abuse anybody. So I agree with this review because he explains and demonstrates good and important details that will help the readers understand.

The book bystander is pretty much based around bullying. If you crack open this book you rarely miss Griffin bullying someone. Not only him, his "Friends", They frequently listen to Griffin. If they don't Griffin may get physical or pretty mad, This is why Griffin really doesn't have friends, they are just people that are afraid of him. He Bully's with his friends he doesn't do it alone because he is afraid that he might lose or look dumb. He needs his friends at all times. But the main reason this image is important is because people wanted to stop bullying in this book but they didn't have a big enough crowd to do it. So what i'm implying is that we should all take a stand and stop bullying.

In the book bystander, Eric and griffin are against each other. They always have some type of problem, Usually it's Griffin who starts this conflict, but not always . The impact this literary element has on the book is insane. Griffin is usually bullying Eric everyday, but Eric never tells anyone, and he doesn't usually show that Griffin is impacting him. Griffin makes the conflict bigger than it should be, because he never stops bullying Eric, and the conflict is you have to stop Griffin from hurting Eric.

People read this book and automatically make Griffin look like a bad person. Because he bully's right? well Griffin may get bully'd too. Griffins dad bully's him so much that Griffin gets Angry and wants to take out his anger on other people like Eric because he knows that when he gets home hes gonna get hit and made fun of by his father. So what i'm saying is that Griffin doesn't know any better which leads him to bullying.
