I picked this book, because it was different than all the romantic YA books. The two most prominent figures in the book would be Gemma and Tar, because the book is written about their lives from 10 different people in first person perspective. Tar's real name is David, but Gemma calls him Tar, because she disapproves of him smoking cigarettes. Tar is kind of a messed up kid, because of his family. He runs away from his alcoholic dad who beats him, and his manipulative mother who tried to make her son hide her own alcoholism from Tar's father. Tar is really a good hearted person in the book, but is always getting into the wrong stuff.
