Tranio: "No, sir, but hear I do that he hath two, / The one as famous for a scolding tongue / As is the other for beauteous modesty" (1.2.259-261).

Pertruchio: "Sir, sir, the first's for me; let her go by" (1.2.262).

this scene is funny because Tranio attacks Katherine and Pertruchio defends her by basically saying "that girl is mine".

Petruchio: "'Twas told me you were rough, and coy, and sullen, / And now I find report a very liar. / For thou art pleasant, gamesome, passing / courteous, / But slow in speech, yet sweet as springtime flowers'" (2.1.257-261).

This quote is funny because Petruchio is describing Katherine. He is describing her as pleasant, courteous, and kind when in reality, Katherine is quite the opposite. The irony behind his speech allows for a comedic moment.

Petruchio: "Now by the world, it is a lusty wrench./ I love her ten times more than ere I did" (2.1.168-169).

This quote is funny because Petruchio still loves and adores Katherine despite the bad things he hears about her. His image of Katherine will not be destroyed by the horrible things he hears about her making his unexpected reaction comical.

Petruchio:

"Come, come, you wasp! I' faith, you are too angry."

Katherine:

"If I be waspish, best beware my sting."

I find this quote funny because as Petruchio insults Katherine, she comes back essentially saying that he set himself up for the downfall, by him calling her a wasp, she replies with well, if you think I'm a wasp you better watch out for my sting. It reminds me of the time in the Bible before his crucifixion when Pontius Pilot asks, "so you are King of the Jews?" and Jesus replies "you have said so."

But with a more lighthearted tone, obviously because we are not killing people (yet?).

His surprised expression is led by Katherine's divergently ways.

Then when Lucentio teases Bianca about it, she retorts by telling him he shouldn't have bet on her.

Baptista simply replies that he has a daughter and disregards Petruchio's flattery towards Kate.
