Speech and language problems after a stroke often occur due to damage in the brain areas responsible for communication. This can result in aphasia (difficulty understanding/producing language) or dysarthria (slurred/slow speech due to muscle weakness). These problems appear very suddenly after the stroke, making recovery different where some patients regain abilities quickly, and others experience long-term difficulties. Effective long-term management is vital because communication is essential for independence, relationships, and mental health.

The use of arts-based therapies is beneficial because it promotes whole-body and mind integration. It also requires people who have experienced a stroke to use their damaged limbs. Art therapy works particularly well for those who have trouble expressing themselves and communicating, which is frequently one of the problems people face following a stroke. This form of rehabilitation can be provided by a certified art therapist and music therapist.

Computed tomography is imaging technology that's used in emergencies to determine whether a stroke is caused by a blood clot or bleeding. This is a diagnosis plan as it allows for quick decision making when it comes to treatment. An MRI is also an imaging technology that provides more detailed images of the brain to detect small or deep strokes that CT scans misses. This method is also considered a diagnostic plan is it just allows for a deeper perspective at the condition.

There are smartwatches or home sensors that can detect when an individual falls, which is more likely in stroke survivors with mobility issues. Automatic alerting emergency services raise the chances of survival and better recovery. This is a prevention and treatment plan as it aids in reducing complications or delayed care after a stroke. There are also wearable blood pressure monitors that allow you to continuously track blood pressure and alert users / healthcare providers if readings are too high or low. This is also considered as a prevention plan as it encourages early intervention for high blood pressure. Some common drawback software both of these technologies is that they rely on batteries that need regular charging, which isn't always available, and sometimes producing false alerts / inaccurate readings.

The potential barriers for implementation are that people may not act on symptoms due to denial, fear, or lack of urgency. Even when aware of FAST, some delay calling emergency services. The second public health intervention are population-based hypertension screening and management programs. These programs offer free or heavily discounted blood pressure checks, encourage community-based hypertension management (such as clinics, pharmacies, and mobile health units), aid in the early detection of high blood pressure, and encourage drug adherence and lifestyle modifications to the individual. The potential barrier is that there is limited healthcare access, especially in rural or low-income areas.

Obesity, diabetes, and high cholesterol contribute to stroke risk. The promotion of healthy diet and physical activity provides the environment and the individual with nutrition labeling laws, school and workplace wellness programs, urban planning to promote walking/cycling, and public education on healthy eating. The implementation challenges are that unsafe neighborhoods may discourage physical activity and time and financial constraints limit the ability to engage in healthier lifestyles. The next type of public health measure is Atrial Fibrillation (AFib) Detection and Management. AFib increases stroke risk due to blood clots forming in the heart. This public intervention offers screenings to older adults for irregular heartbeat, education for clinicians and patients, and promotes access to anticoagulants when needed. The potential implementation barriers are low public awareness of AFib and its link to stroke, underdiagnosis due to asymptomatic or intermittent episodes, and the cost of anticoagulants.
