Energy can change. This is called energy transformation. An example of this is riding a bike. First your legs move which is mechanical energy, then the wheels that are moving rub against the ground, creating sound energy. Another example of this is bouncing a basketball. The mechanical energy of the moving ball hits the floor, so the mechanical energy changes into sound energy.

Can an object transfer more then one type of energy?

An object can transfer more than one type of energy. This is because a flame, for example, can transfer both heat and light energy. This heat, which is obvious because it's a campfire, is very large and immense. There is also lots of light, or radiant energy, being released. Another example is riding a bike. As you push the pedals, the bike moves, which transfers to mechanical energy but also sound energy from the bike actually moving.

The Law of Conservation of Energy states that energy cannot be created or destroyed. This means that energy cannot just appear or disappear magically. Energy can only go through transfers and transformations. So no, energy cannot be created or destroyed. This is because if it could, that would be breaking scientific laws.

How does energy flow in a system?

In this PhET Lab, there is a system which includes a faucet, a wheel and a lightbulb. Mechanical energy transfers from the running water to the wheel, then that energy is transferred to electrical energy and is moving through the cord. The electrical energy has now reached the lightbulb and now, there is an energy transformation that occurs, in which the electrical energy turns into thermal energy. Lastly, the thermal energy becomes light energy that escapes the bulb, with some waste thermal energy escaping as well. Therefore, energy flows in a system by transferring from one object to another, and from changing from one form to another.
