Athens had a different way of government called Democracy meaning people could vote on how Athens was run and vote on new laws but the only downside was only guys could vote not women. Also, people who didn't like the ruler/leader could vote out the leader if a certain amount of people voted. (600 people is the number) Moving on evidence has shown that slaves in Athens get treated better than other slaves in most of Ancient Greece. In Sparta if you were a Hellot or appeared to be dangerous you'd be killed by the secret police force in Sparta for no reason. If you were the second highest slave rank you could buy your own freedom and if you were the highest rank as a slave you could become a tutor or police officer unlike other city states. Although Sparta had a much better fierce trained "army", Athens still had a pretty good army who weren't as good as Sparta but were still good. You might think that Sparta could easily defeat Athens which is true but since Athens had most of Ancient Greece (allies) on their side they were still feared. I rather live in Athens because, women weren't forced in marriage, like Sparta women. I'd also like to live in Athens, because, you would earn an education, unlike the people in Sparta. And the last reason is, that I would rather be on a team with brains than on a team with brawn. Athens was way more organized and more fancy and beautiful than Sparta was. I would live in Athens because, in my opinion, Athens is a better society as a whole. Athens is more intellectually and architecturaly advanced than Sparta, proving that brains wins over brawn. Why? Because; you could be the most powerful person in the world, but if you weren't smart you could lose a battle easily. Another reason why I would prefer Athens over Sparta is because even though in Athens women are considered property, at least a weak child wouldn't be left in the mountains to be eaten by mountain predators. Also, men didn't have to be warriors. They could be farmers, mentors, doctors, etc. Athens, as well as having protection by walls and strong buildings, copied Sparta's "indefeatable" battle style, the phalanx. Athens also traded with nearby city-states, allowing them to obtain materials unable to be found in their own lands and create allies for future battles that Athens alone could not win. Another reason I would live in Athens is a democratic city-state, meaning that citizens had somewhat of a decision on how their society was run. Even though the helots in Sparta had plenty of freedom, Athen's slaves weren't killed because they took over more population then their people! Athens was better, showing everything that Sparta never had; intelligence.
