With this moodboard I wanted to gather inspiration for the colour scheme and style of imagery for example I liked the idea of giving the Ident a retro feel to connect it to the MTV 90s videos we were shown . I thought about animating simple geometric shapes and bright colours to give off an 80s pattern with lots of movement then animating these shapes into characters or CD’s or a disco ball to connect back the music channel

This gold etching was an interesting piece because It made me consider how I could potentially incorporate this into my project with LCC workshops and resources such as the printing options . One idea i’d like to perhaps try is the UV printing onto a strong material like concrete and then destroying it and recording the process .

I thought the exhibition was very fun and playful this came from the mixture of literal toys like cars and dolls and the use of bright colours throughout the imagery also colourful lighting .

This exhibition had a contrasting environment to the first exhibition,for example in my opinion it felt more calm but also eerie church like atmosphere whereas the other exhibition had a stimulating energy with all the colours and visuals going on . I do feel both used the space very effectively but in a different way and both used audio in a different way which has helped me think about how I’m going to use audio in my project to create a specific mood.

I wanted my visuals to capture the ideas I had related to a retro aesthetic and the use of fun colourful shapes.Thinking further about how I could use these geometric shapes in a more detailed way I found images that give off movement and I also wanted to use images of circuit boards because of their square / rectangular structure . I think this would also connect well to the MTV inspired style of Ident the client has discussed .

These postcards were created with images from my moodboards and visual research in an exercise within university. The work shop focused on practicing time management and working creatively in a non linear methodology.I found the activity fun as collage is something I enjoy and it helped me to think more about narrative ideas for my animation by creating mini stories within the images or an overall theme . Spending a short time and reusing the same image in different ways was also new and challenging at first to keep things cohesive but helpful to experiment with different shapes .

I have also looked into Art by Sol le Witt , the bright colours almost have a retro or fun aesthetic I’d like to inspire my colour palette. Also the use of repetitive lines in his works are really interesting again creating moment in the space and remind me of wires which I could maybe incorporate into a "tv" shaped logo for subtv

Another artist I have chosen to take inspiration from and research is Frank Stella . I really like the 3D sculptures flowing movement and bright bold colours . This has also inspired me to consider 3D elements to my work like a Cd with its bright colours for the music channels Ident .

This example of ‘op art’/ illusion Art is a piece created by Bridget Riley , I have chosen to research this artists work and the style of op-art because I like how the lines create unique movement and interesting patterns . I could potentially apply and create a similar effect in the background of my work or experiment with lines .

I chose to experiment again with newspaper and different patterned paper to build up the image .this time the patterns being in the stereo instead of the background .Ireally like the black and white newspaper squares so I reused them to make the speaker as well as the CD I photo to make the inner circles .

To create this video I combined one of my animations with images from my collage . I also experimented with adding different sounds with each image to show ideas around the channel’s diverse range .

After feedback I tried to work further on developing my idea of incorporating more movements and a stereo shape into stop motion collage . I also wanted to incorporate key geometric shapes and pops of bright colour by using different papers and images .

Overall I think this animation is less successful because I didn’t use the same equipment to keep my camera in a fixed position but I do think it was helpful to experiment with a more interesting background because it also showed me I’d prefer to keep the stereo shape as the focus . I’d also like to change the text to be larger and in colour .

With this animation I aimed to experiment with different movement I could create using line and colourful shapes as this has been a key theme in my project . I’ve also added a grainy style border to experiment with a ‘TV’ screen style effect and give the piece a more retro feel .

I’d like to develop my ideas on the text further like maybe a larger brush or text in the background.

In this piece focusing on final changes I made the border to be a full tv screen instead to make it more clearly linked to the logo , I also experimented with changing colours of the images again because I think this worked well in my previous animation experiments using colour balance and hue changes . For my final version I wanted the background to be less busy to maintain the focus on the moving text so I’ve used larger geometric shapes over a white background which change with each frame .Ialso extended the length of the Ident through the movement of these shapes coming together to make the logo

For the overall logo I took the final frame of my Ident collage stage and edited it into black and white to make the stereo shape clear . Then after sharpening the image I used my bright retro colour palette to fill in different parts and outline the image to make it more eyecatching . One interesting concept from this piece came from a piece of feedback from another student which was that the squares reminded them of a dance floor .

I looked at old MTV idents further to gain inspiration . I think these are really successful and interesting videos , some of the animation styles are 90s but it still feels timeless because they’re almost casual , bursts of expression and I like how individual they feel to the creators with the amount of range in Idents .Furthermore I’d like to focus on how they animate text in a variety of ways like the bottom right using visuals to match theme of the ident

It was helpful and fun to see everyone’s work for subtv as there was a lot of variety in art styles , audios and video concepts . My favourite idents were two that used a DJdeck and lots of sounds of buttons and like old arcade sounds and illustrated in a very 90s animation style with a light neon vibe and think black outlines. A lot of the works were very well polished and smooth animations . I think my work succeeds in the showreel in terms of originality because I changed the I used multiple music sounds and a different approach to the video by using stop motion whereas a lot were digitally created with a singular track in the background .

I really liked seeing how students had interpreted the brief differently and used fun cartooon styles . I would’ve chose this client brief originally but I felt it was very similar to work I’ve done in the past and too safe of a choice so to try something new I wanted to dry develop my video and animation skills . Seeing some of the self initiated projects were also exciting because I also enjoy fashion design and on the open day some students did-layer self designed fabrics and a dress which was really nice to see a unique project.

I also thought that another company who’s Ident have stood out to me in the past is BBC - for example on the news or various channels the company adds distinction through different coloured texts like BBC three being pink whereas BBC two being blue . This influenced me to think about how I could communicate a wide range of music genres within my work through colour

The use ofCDs was a big influential part of my project too because I really like the bright range of colours it produces and it’s shape fits in with my ideas about geometric structures and potentially using it as a 3D element
