There needs to be a collation of information about the student's past experience/learning, what learning styles suit them best- what teaching styles the learning outcome best suits ( eg. practical or academic knowledge) and the available time/resource/feedback etc constraints- all of which will affect how and how well the student will receive, understand, attain and retain the knowledge/ information/skills contained within the learning outcome.

I would ask my student how she was feeling and what she was expecting from the course. I would also ask her what teaching methods she prefers and what style of learning suits her best.

I would discuss with my student what strategies have worked well before and how we can build on these. i would create smart goals with my student and discuss the learning style in which they would like to achieve these goals and explore opportunities within the different areas in the hospital to support this such as: study days, clinical skills teaching sessions, observation etc

A warm and welcome environment is paramount to a positive start to a student placement. Ensure that the student is aware of the designated person that they can go to with any issues or concerns.
Initial interview allows discussion with regards to the clinical area/department, expectations, strengths and weakness, positives and negatives of previous placement (if appropriate) and an opportunity to outlay what the student would like to achieve within the setting. It’s also important to plan ahead and schedule interviews in advance so that the student understands the expectation and can work towards and be prepared for those meetings - even if they do get moved by a day or so. Provide a culture whereby reflective practice is the norm and reflective discussion takes place regularly. This is an opportunity whereby the student can direct their learning outcomes. Constructive criticism and regular feedback facilitates good relationships. It is also important to get to know our students and to understand any outside influences that maybe contributing to anxiety or pressure. Allowing an open and honest approach and providing support can nurture a very positive relationship and a proficient nurse .

Be aware of the student's but also your own learning style and examine how well they mesh together. Don't make assumptions and adapt to what will work best for the student.

Ask the student what their interests are in relation to this placement. Get them to become involved in their own learning by learning about areas they do have an interest. Finding this out in the initial interview will enable them to get the best learning experience from this placement.

On the first day, the student may need time to settle and get used to the new environment and staff. I would ensure that the student was made to feel welcome and establish their learning style. We could then look at the learning objectives and plan activities. Discuss any individual learning needs and also any areas that the student wants to improve upon.

Make your student feel welcome and at ease. Although their learning style is important so also is your relationship with them. If you are approachable and relatable the student will be able to open up and you will get the best out of them.

I would spend time with the student on the first day, going through what the initial interview includes, but then following a good orientation over the that day and the next day, i would actually give them time to find out what they need to use from this placement.

I also worry about behaviourism when it comes to students, it will not benefit them at all to just learn the processes and follow these blindly, they need to know the evidence behind every action and it's about picking the style that will enable this

on initial interview with my student I would find out where their baseline I knowledge is to ensure we set realistic objectives. I would also find out what type of learner they are and how I can incorporate this to ensure they meet their goals and learn to the best of their ability.
at the end of the day of after each learning activity discuss how they felt it went and how much they felt they learnt. I will also be able to adapt my teaching style to their learning style.

The initial interview with the student is a getting to know stage and building up a relationship, establishing a good rapport to student . I will be able to identify weakness and strength of the learner in which appropriate learning mode can be applied. I will present some scenarios and have a very informal discussion to bring out what is the student' baseline knowledge, identifying areas that need focus on as well as re enforcing what is already known.

The initial interview with the student will be a key opportunity to understand the stage of learning that the student is at.
Nowadays students have varied backgrounds and learning experiences shaped by the styles of teaching that they experienced in school.
It would be wrong to assume that all students will react well with connectivism just because we live in an era of technology.
The initial interview will be a platform to determine the preferred learning style and create a route to progress the student to a more active connected style if necessary.

Welcome student to an open discussion about what they want to achieve from the current placement. Assess their understanding in the current role and build upon discussion integrating their preferred way of learning. Guide the objectives to be meaningful and achievable in the time set.

I feel that the initial interview should be a construction conversation whereas goals and targets are set but also considering the student's strengths and weaknesses. This opens the conversation for ideas on how to improve their weaknesses but also working at highlighting their strengths and using those strengths as a tool to learn more effectively, this could help improve their overall confidence. It is also a good opportunity to understand how the student learns best either by hands on experience or education and theory.

As a former student who felt very out of depth in many of my placements i think it is important to note that not all students will necessarily know what is expected of them and what exactly they are meant to achieve on placements.

I would first of all ask my student how they are feeling,and answer any queries they had involving that. I would then talk about expectations and make sure i created realistic and achievable expectations, after this i would discuss with them whether they felt these were achievable for them and not to over whelming,as well as discuss how we will be able to achieve this. Then id give them a opportunity to discus there known learning styles and what they thing will help them to strive.

I think it is important to understand what the student has previously learnt on other placements, as a foundation to build on these skills and knowledge. And to be able to set goals for this placement to get skills and proficiencies signed off. Informing the student on learning opportunities available including spoke days with specialists in the area. As well as informing the student that all of the staff on the ward are available for support so they feel comfortable in their learning environment.

I think it is important to collaborate with the student to try find out which educational theory best fits them. A pre set list of questions could be devised to help determine which of the models the student best fits into. By explaining to them that this will translate to fostering their development as effectively as possible, the process becomes shared and motivates them to be involved.

I would usually orient the student on their first days. Let them work with me and see what the routines are on the ward and would do the initial interview by the end of their first week as i have noticed that this gives them more time to identify their learning needs.
We would go through what is expected with the initial interview while finding ways to tackle needs that were identified.

I think that it is important to ask the student what they want to achieve from the placement, they may be particularly worried about gaining competence in something they have never done before but they need to confidently tell us at initially interview if there is anything specific they'd like to achieve. I think it is appropriate to set weekly targets and check in at the end of the week to see if these were met and or reassess a time frame.

At the initial interview I would always discuss what the student what the student has learned/ achieved in their previous placement . I would also discuss what they are looking to gain from the placement that they are currently on and their expectations from myself as a mentor. I would discuss the opportunities which are available from the department and set targets for when we should be achieving these by.

At the initial interview I feel it is important to identify what the student hopes to achieve and what they have already achieved prior to this placement. Looking at the learning theories, it would be beneficial to discuss how the student learns most effectively in order to adapt teaching styles to the students needs to enhance their learning experience and create greater opportunities.

Whenever I have a student I always show them round the hospital and ask them what they would like to achieve, while they are on placement. From what their response is, I would complete the initial interview with them and create a time table and plan on how they can achieve this, making sure they can achieve their competencies at the same time. I always give the student the lead as it is their learning and as we are specialized not all students may want to learn every area.

Initial interview should focus on identifying learning outcomes and welcoming patient to new learning environment. I always ask what they feel comfortable doing to establish a baseline and this can be developed further with support. A student needs to know theory behind practice and then needs confidence and competence to provide care safely. Knowing how the patient enjoys to learn can be helpful as teaching/ support can be adapted to best suit them.

Something I would be keen to note is Vygotsky theory of scaffolding and how this can be applied to supporting the students in practice. I would then be able to remove the scaffolds as the placement progressed on the placement to ensure that the students learning experience was individual. The initial interview would be a good insight into where the student feels like they are, what their aims and goals are on the placement.

Performing the initial interview with the student and exploring what they have learned form previous placements is something for me to look into. It is for the student and I to be able to leverage them on planning the learner's expected outcomes while actively involving the student and letting them lead their placement's course.

To support and motivate a student using educational theory I'd ensure that I tailored my approach to the student's interests and learning style.

I'd promote their autonomy by encouraging independent thinking and decision-making to give them a sense of control over their learning, not least because they will have to develop in this direction as an independent practitioner. I would show them the value and importance of Nursing not just being about a cookie cutter" approach to training and application, but instead, it being the implementation of (best) evidence based practice.

I would look to provide constructive feedback that focuses on improvement, helping the student understand their strengths and areas for growth. This in turn would foster a supportive learning environment, promoting collaboration and emphasising the importance of shared knowledge.

From the initial interview, I would look to set clear, achievable goals to provide direction and a sense of accomplishment, tapping into their personal interests to help keep them motivated.

At the initial interview with students it is best to have a discussion to assess how they best learn, what skills they may have previously learnt at previous placements and to set targets for them to achieve. It would also provide a good opportunity to explain support that would be available for them while studying at the trust.
