In the passage of,"Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass", mulatto slaves suffer greater hardships because mulatto slaves are a mix of a white master and black slave. For example,"...especially when she suspects her husband of showing to his mulatto children favors which he withholds from his black slaves". This shows that the master shows his mulatto slaves favors and he doesn't show favors to his black slaves. Also,"... if their increase will do no other good, it will do away the force of the argument, that god cursed ham, and therefore american slavery is right". This shows that people believed that slavery is the right thing to do and they can treat slaves however they want.

In the text it states "I know of such case; and it is worthy of remark that such slaves invariably suffer greater hardships." This shows that mulatto slaves should suffer great hardships because it is a worthy remark just because they are a black and white product. The text goes on to state "They are, in the first place, a constant offence to their mistress." This shows that mulatto slaves should suffer more because if the mistress finds out that the mulatto is a child of the master it will be a offence towards the mistress. This is why mulatto slaves should suffer more than other slaves.

According to Douglass, Mulatto slaves suffer greater hardships. He states that they have greater suffering because they were the children of the slave master and the mistress would be displeased of the father and the children when she shows favors. In the narrative it states "She is ever disposed to find fault with with them; they can seldom do any thing to please her; she is never better pleased than when she sees then under the lash, especially when she suspects her husband of showing his mulatto children favors which he withholds from his black slaves." This proves that she is pleased when she does not show favoritism to any slave, even a smile anything. Also according to Douglass he seen his slave master beat his only children and the children of the slave master beat the mulatto children. In the text it states "The master is frequently compelled to sell this class of his slaves, out of deference to the feelings of his white wife; and, cruel as the deed may strike any one to be, for a man to sell his own children to human flesh-mongers, it is often the dictate of humanity for him to do so; for, unless he does this, he must not only whip them himself, but he must stand by and see one white son tie up his brother, of but few shades darker complexion than himself...” This proves that he must do inhumane things to his children even if they are mulatto. He even has to watch his white children do it to his mulatto children. This is why the mulatto children have it worse according to Douglass.

This shows that anything the slaves do wont be correct or pleasant for the mistress unless they are suffering. In conclusion the Mulatto slaves suffer greater hardship by being the master kids and being despise by the mistress.

In the text it states , “ she is never better pleased than when she sees them under the lash , especially when she suspects her husband of showing to his mulatto children favors which he withholds from his black slaves “. For example in the text it states “The children of slave women shall in all cases follow the condition of their mothers; and this is done too obviously to administer to their own lusts, and make a gratification of their wicked desires profitable as well as pleasurable.” This shows that, the children of slaves must go to the state of their own mothers, and this is made specifically to control their lusts and at the same time make the pleasure of their evil orders profitable and enjoyable for them. In addition in the text it says “For by this cunning arrangement, the slaveholder, in cases not a few, sustains to his slaves the double relation of master and father.” This proves that, thanks to their agreement of the slave owner, in cases he supports his slaves with both the relation of master and father. According to Douglass, Mulatto slaves suffer greater hardship.

Molatto slaves suffer greater hardship because they were just a products that his father and his wife would sail. He would also get a constant offense to their mistress. He would leave with this women, that was not good for him, and she would do everything to destroy him. Also it was confusing because he was a son of a master, but he was still a slave. In the text it states “They are in the first place, a constant offense to their mistress.” It proves that molatto slaves suffer greater hardship because he would leave not with his mother, and this women would offense to their mistress every day. In addition in the text it states “Out of the deference to the feelings of his wife, and cruel astute deed may strike any one to be, for a man to sell his own children to human fresh-mongers.” It proves that Molatto slaves suffer greater hardship because the women would talk to his husband about the sailing kids and she would say that it’s a good deal. So Molatto slaves suffer greater hardship because they couldn’t leave with their moms and they were leaving with his father and her wife. Also because his fathers wife was constantly offencing, she didn’t liked him.

According to Douglas, Mulatto slaves suffered greater hardships because they are considered a great offense to the father’s mistress. The text states, “She is ever disposed to find fault with them; they can seldom do anything to please her...” this shows that the mistress wasn’t comfortable with their presence especially because they were the outcome of her husband having an affair with a slave. The master also had to sell his mulatto children “...for unless he does this, he must not only whip them himself, but must stand by and see one white son tie up his brother, of buy few shades darker complexion than himself, and ply the gory lash on his naked back...” which is very hard for the master because he has to either sell his son or beat the child himself.

According to Douglass Mulatto slaves suffer hardships because they were children of slave master. The children don't know that the slave master is their dad. It states in the text "The whisper that my master was my father, may or may not be true; and, true or false, it is of but little consequence to my purpose whilst the fact remains, in all its glaring odiousness, that slaveholders have ordained, and by law established, that the children of slave women shall in all cases follow the condition of their mothers." This shows that the they are not sure that the slave master is their dad. Slave master might do everything with children. It states in the text "The master is frequently compelled to sell this class of his slaves, out of deference to the feelings of his white wife." this shows that the slave master can sell them easily. According to Douglass Mulatto slaves suffer hardships because they were children of slave master.

According to Douglass,Mulatto slaves suffer greater hardships because they are the kids of a slave and slave owner. The text states "she is never better pleased than when she sees them under the lash, especially when she suspects her husband of showing to his mulatto children favors which he withholds from his black slaves." I can infer that the mistress does not appeal to mulatto children because her husband cheated on her with a slave. The text also states “ she is ever disposed to find fault with them; they can seldom do any thing to please her; she is never better pleased them when she sees them under the lash”. This quote gets across the fact that the mistress isn’t 100% satisfied if she doesn’t see the mulatto slaves getting brutalized.
