         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>Tomás Luis de Victoria</strong>, one of the greatest composers of the 16th century. Was born near Avila in 1548, and died in Madrid in 1611.
In 1565 he was sent by King Phillip II of Spain in 1565 to prepare for holy orders  at the German College in Rome. 
He met the pious dowager empress Maria, and later became her chaplain.
 In 1584 she entered the convent of the Descalzas Reales in Madrid, and settled there  in 1594</div>]]></description>
