The name Mystic derived from the Indian tribe missituk in 1654. The missituk tribe was in war with the Pequot tribe fighting across the Mystic River. The pequote tibe won and took control of the area. Moving forward a few hundred years, to get across the river we cross the 98 year old refurbished draw bridge. But be careful if you are in a rush because every 40 minutes you can watch the ancient draw bridge go up and down. It is a beautiful sight to see with its major collection of old sailing ships and boats. Only two other aquariums in the U.S have sea lions so it is rare to see them. On the other hand there is a massive beluga whale exhibit right when you walk in. This the the only aquarium in New England that holds beluga whales.
