Analysis of classroom implementations – 4th Example by EUN Partnership aisbl

Consider the experiment in this section. It contains simple and easy to access ingredients, it can be easily implemented in the classroom and it connects scientific knowledge with real life situations. Can you think of any other similar exercises where, with minimum of resources, students can benefit from a full inquiry situation? Post your proposals below!

Move the bottle back to see the arrows return to their original directions.

- we learned that refraction occurs because light bends when it passes through substances, such as water and plastic
- as the light travels through a substance, it becomes concentrated into a focal point, usually near the center; after light passes through the focal point, the rays cross over each other and cause images to appear reversed

One of the simplest practices I propose in class is about yeast nutrition.
First, the students make bread (this step is not obligatory) and observe that in a short time the dough grows a lot. Then we try to answer the question "Why does the bread grow? and we come to the conclusion that the dough contains yeast and this makes the cellular respiration and releases co2.
Next, I introduce you to the material at our disposal (plastic bottles, balloons, water, water heater, flour, sugar, temperature sensor, etc.), and encourage you to ask researchable questions about this process of cell respiration of yeast. Each group asks its own question, and we share them to find out if they are researchable or not. Then each group prepares a hypothesis and an experimental design to test the hypothesis. We put it in common. Each group does their experiment, analyzes the results, and then prepares a poster to explain their research to the other groups.

Translated with www.DeepL.com/Translator

Here's why you need the recipe for licking home soap recipe.
Ingredients required for the lard soap recipe: 4 kg of pork fat (may be old roasted bacon or any fat), degraded vegetable oil (not to exceed 1/4 of the total weight), a spoonful of kitchen salt (50 g) and 3 l water per kilogram of material, 250-300 g caustic soda.
Method of preparation for licking soap recipe: It is preferable to put 300 g of caustic soda from the beginning since it can no longer be added after the composition has become hot because it melts by reacting violently, producing an explosion and spraying everything around . Caustic soda will be handled with extreme caution: with rubber gloves or with a hand wrapped in a nylon bag, because it touches the skin with burns and frosts (they can be neutralized quickly with a cotton pad with vinegar).
