A festival is basically an event which is celebrated by a certain group of people. I like most of the festivals but the one I like the most is the Sinhala Hindu New Year which is celebrated on April. It is also considered as a crossover of two different cultures; Sinhalese culture and Hindus' culture. According to my view this festival creates a great bond between Sinhalese and Hindus and my favourite part about this festival is the traditional sweets and the fireworks.

I like to celebrate and enjoy almost all the festivals, but among them, Christmas is the festival that I like the most. Christians celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ on 25th December as Christmas. To celebrate this day, they make Christmas cakes and many sweets, do beautiful decorations in their houses, go to the church, and at the end of the day, they are having a Christmas meal together with all of their family members. Especially the kids like Christmas because the Santa clause is giving their Christmas presents. Moreover, it is a tradition that, they all exchange gifts between family members, neighbours, and friends. This festival is celebrating in May month. We celebrate this festival to commemorate the Lord Buddha's special three moments . Buddhist people are celebrating this festival. 
There are lot of people making vesak lanterns to decorate the houses, buildings and roads. In the temples and in many places, the peopl  have decorated nicely. The people are celebrating this festival by holding perahera .and go to the temple. The vesak festival is a major festival celebrating in srilanka.

There are cultural and traditional festivals that belong to each religion. Among those different types of festivals the festival that I like most is Sinhala & Tamil New Year.
Every year in month of April we celebrate this festival. This is an interesting and colourful festival among all kids and elders. Begining of the April people are getting ready with cleaning their houses and collecting goods.
On that day they wear new clothes and do the works at auspicious time. Some of these are boiling milk, lightning the hearth, cooking meals, etc.
