         <description><![CDATA[<div>During the Triassic time period, the carbon dioxide (CO2) levels in the atmosphere were 5-10 times higher than today. The level of oxygen was only about 15% and temperatures were really high in the beginning of the Triassic period (235 mya). However, 200 mya, the temperatures were lower, although, still much higher than current temperatures. </div>]]></description>

         <title>The oceans</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Due to the mass extinction caused by high carbon dioxide levels during the Permian period, the oceans were depopulated during the Triassic period. Fossil fish from this time period were very alike which indicates that very few species survived the extinction. Early in the time period, some reptiles returned from the ocean. The Ichthyosaurus looked like lizards although later in the time period they evolved to look more like dolphins. The first development of modern stony corals came mid- to late Triassic period and in the shallower waters along the coast of Pangea, reef building activity started showing. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>In the end of the Permian period and into the beginning of the Triassic a mass extinction called the Great Dying destroyed over 90% of life on Earth. Researchers are still discussing what caused  the extinction. There are theories about volcanic eruptions, climate change and even and asteroid collision. After the Great Dying, the surviving species had more room to develop and land-life began to diversify. During this time came the first dinosaurs and rodent-sized mammals. </div>]]></description>

         <title>Dominant species</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The Triassic period was the first time period of the Mesozoic era which is also sometimes referred to as the Age of Reptiles. Before the Triassic period, most life only existed in water. Towards the end of the Pemian period, some species began to evolve and could survive on land but most of them died out during the Great Dying. However, reptiles dominated during the Mesozoic era both in water, on land and in the sky. There were two types of reptiles during the Triassic time period. The Therapsids were more mammal-like and the Archosaurs that more reptile-like. In the bgeinning of the period it seemed as if the Therapsids would dominate during the period since some species had survived the Great Dying but by the middle of the time period most Therapsids were extinct and de Archosaurs were dominant. Some reptiles developed into the first dinosaurs, however, most dinosaurs lived after the triassic period but dominated the Jurassic and Cretaceous periods. </div>]]></description>

         <title>Geographic landscape</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>A series of collisions of the Earth's landmasses that took place in the beginning of the triassic period formed the supercontinent Pangea. It was shaped like a large C over the equator. Pangea was sorrounded by the ocean Panthalassa. The supercontinent was also filled by the Tethy's sea that forced Pangea to split up and almost as soon as Pangea formed, it started to break apart again. It spilt in to two new supercontinents, Laurasia  and Godwana. Laurasia was the northern supercontinent and was made up of present-day Asia, Europe, North America and Greenland. Godwana lied in the Southern Hemisphere and included South America, Africa, India, Australia, and Antarctica. As time went on, the new supercontinents continued to separate to form the continents of today. </div>]]></description>

         <title>Fossil records</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>There are a lot of fossil records from the Triassic period, especially for the Archosaur evolution. In fossil records from the early Triassic period, right after the Great Dying,  the first Archosauromorphs appear, which are early relatives of Archosaurs. They included long-necked reptiles called Prolacertiforms, herbivores called Rhynchosaur, terrestrial predators called Erythrosuchians and Proterosuchians and closer relatives to true archosaurs called Euparkeria. Many of these species didn't make it very long, most of them died in the late Triassic extinctions. Instead, new groups of Archosaurs appeared in the late Triassic and made it in to the Jurassic period, and some of them have living descendants today, like crocodilians and birds. </div>]]></description>

         <title>Life today</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Many major changes throughout the Mesozoic era that would later affect our world today begun to show during the Triassic period. For example, the distribution of landmasses. Pangea formed in the beginning of the Triassic only to later split up into Laurasia and Godwana. These supercontinents would continue to break apart to form the continents of today. Due to the mass extinction of the late Permian period and the hot and dry climate of the Triassic period, life diversified. The seas were colonized with reefbuilding corals and animals in the seas started to evolve into terrestrial reptiles and dinosaurs. Some of these species continued to evolve into reptiles and birds that are alive today.  From these reptiles, the first mammals with fur also came during the end of the time period. </div>]]></description>
