Children on the Oregon faced many hardships while on the trail but also did things to have fun. One of the many hardships that the children faced was injury or death from the wagon. If a child was ran over by the wheel they would most likely die instantly. Even though that they were on the trail, they still had some chores to do. The girls often cooked food and deserts for their family. Some other chores that the kids would do was collecting wood, milking cows, and fetch water. One thing that the children couldn't do while on the trail was continue their education. Their parents had to many other things to do. To get their mind off of the hard journey, the little boys would sometimes talk to the Indians that they met on the trail and ask them questions.

The main us weapon wat the .69 caliber smoothbore minie ball musket.
the .69 caliber was a pointed minie ball with three rings at the base of the bullet. The .69 caliber musket was deadly accurate at 100 yards away, but like all muskets it required lots of cleaning equipment. Many officers carried double barreled shotguns that were extremely effective up to 15 yards away. Although we had better handheald weapons the real winning asset of the american army was artillery. Our cannons could hit targets with pinpoint accuracy from up to three hundred yards away.

If they ran out of food in the first month it would be hard for them to survive the rest of the months. Therefore, they had to bring a lot of food to survive.
