The artist I met, Glenn Kaino, created a bunch of different works revolving around Tommie Smith. I'm just going to list them below, they're really interesting and I think you'll like reading and looking at his work. There's also a documentary he made called With Drawn Arms, I think you can watch it on Hulu.

The Rebellious Life of Mrs. Rosa Parks – The first book written about her for adults rather than children.  Also written after her death so there were more personal documentation available to scholars to draw upon.  I think this could be really cool and am also planning to read this!
