My mom read me the Lorax every day after school. EVERY DAY (literally). I am a rereader... always have been.

An important memory of when I learned to read was in 1st grade at my new school. We were reading a book that had a lot of simple rhyming words, like “dot” and “spot.” I remember having to read aloud about “Dot likes pots with spots” or something like that. The significance of this was that this was my first time reading on my own. I guess this reveals that I learned how to read?

One memory I have of learning to read and write was tracing the letters on a piece of paper and learning capitalization.

I do not know why it was significant maybe because it was something that I have carried with me like the skill.

My moom helped me read simple children’s books. Things like Dr. Seuss, and things like that.

It helped me learn how to rhyme things and read more complex sentences.

I thought it was REALLY BORING.

I picked up the book, “The Giving Tree” and read through the whole thing over and over again. It was the first book I read by myself and I was not really being forced to read, I just picked the book up and started to read it. I think it is an example of independence because no one told me to try to read I just did it.

I remember when learning to read and write I got frustrated with my Dad because he was trying to teach me to sound out words and would just respond with yes or no when asked if it was right.
The significance of the memory is that he wanted me to figure it out for myself.

When I was in 2nd grade my teacher used to put us in a circle and read to us and sometimes she would call on us to try to read a sentence. The significance was that the books she read to us became my favorite (magic tree house).

One of the most important moments when I was learning to read was when I practiced reading Green Eggs and Ham to my grandparents.
This was one of the books that I actually enjoyed reading and it was great to read to my grandparents because it helped us connect.
This reveals that I need a good reason to be motivated. Reading to my grandparents put some pressure on me so It really motivated me to get better at reading.

My most significant memory of reading and writing is when I was writing a story in 4th grade ELA class and I got up to staple the pages together and I ended up stapling my finger.
Something significant about this story is that this was my earliest memory of how I learned to love writing funny little stories.

I remember my parents reading the rainbow fish book over and over again an I eventually memorized the book and started reading from memory. I don’t really remember how I learned to write or a significant writing moment.

Last year I read a book called “Shatter Me” by: Tahara Mafi. That book started my passion for reading. I was never really a huge reader, but that book series got me hooked. Now I am a reader-reader, and a huge Book buying addict.

Because i learned at such a young age i was ahead of the curb but also behind because my mom used to translate different languages that she knew from children’s books which confused me on which words were right. In first grade I failed English because half of the words in my sentences in different words and accents from different laugaunges. The significance of this is i slowly forgot the words and accents overtime. I also crossed paths with my first grade teacher who didn't understand what it was until years later and was amazed that i did something like that by translating different languages without even knowing.

I learned how to read with my uncle from Europe by following the words one by one, sound it out then say the full word for the longest time ever. It was the same page every day too. That makes a big difference to me because I was so little and so happy.

I don’t remember much about learning to read or write, but I do remember going to the library and picking out books to read when I knew how to read (specifically chapter books), and my mom reading Dr. Seuss books to me. I also remember loving each book that I read wherever I read it. What is significant about this is that I would get to imagine what each character and scene looked like. I would animate it in my mind and it would prove to me that I had at least a bit of imagination. That started a tendency to repeat what someone says inside my head to help remember it more and focus more. Furthermore, during the sermons at Church I will repeat each word and animate each sentence and story in my head to see what it would look like.
