Food Waste🍎🥬🍔

Food waste makes up approximately 22% of our total waste, but we can easily solve this problem in a completely green and beneficial way. The answer is a simple as gardening! Composting. If you don’t want to recycle ♻️ or simply don’t have the time for it 🕰, then try composting! All you need to do is collect leftovers and scraps of your uneaten or spoiled food put into a composter (which can be found at a local HomeDepot or gardening store) then the compost can be sprinkled in your yard or in your garden or even used for indoor plants 🌱. Its very beneficial for plants because of the nutrition in the food and it’s green. If more people composted then we could cut down on pollution and waste by 22%! That may seem small but if everyone contributed we could do so much more!

Looking for ways you can contribute and reduce ocean pollution? Here are a couple of ways you can: Support Bans! The plastic straw ban is a serious one and many people already support it; in fact, the movement is already widespread and making huge progress. Reduce your use of single-use plastics. Single-use plastics include plasctic bags, sanitary items, food containers, utensils etc. naming items like these would make a huge impact. Participate in beach or river cleanups. Cleanups are groups that walk around bodies of water picking up trash and waste people have left behind. They are actually really fun with friends! Try doing one of these and help reduce our ocean pollution! 💧🐬🌎🌊🐋

Spreading awareness

Sometimes it may be hard to spread awareness but there are way to do it. We choose to spread awareness about how waste management is slacking by an instagram page, a padlet, posters around the community, and setting recycling bins around school and community. We choose an instagram page because many people have social media and can reach it so having this option for spreading awareness will reach many people of young age. We also made a padlet because it is a good way to add a bunch of information that many can reach. Posters is another good way to spread awareness around the community specifically to people of all ages. Lastly recycling bins was a option to spread awareness because if you actually take the recycling to your local recycling plant they will actually sort it out and recycle it. Although for most places if you just put your recycling in you recycling can for the garbage man to pick up they don’t actually recycle. So this is exactly why setting up bins around the school and community will help with recycling/waste management. With these many ways to spread awareness it will hopefully show people of all ages how waste management is slacking.
