Preschool Print Rich Enviorment

Although I would have loved to find a crest example for an outside print environment for my preschoolers to relate to the story, I choose an exam, of a free choice expression area as my example. This would be a great area for the preschooler to retell their story whether they choose to draw out a sequence of what happened, use puppets that relate to the story to act it out or magnets for the board to order the story. The purpose and the main goal for the staff members with this type of print rich environment is to allow them to express what they have read but to also place them in an environment that expresses a lot of words, letters, and pictures. Soon they will be able to point out things that they realize and connect letters and words together.

The Book that I will be reading to my preschoolers

The book that I choose to read to my preschooler is “The Very Hungry Caterpiller” by Eric Carle. This would be a good book for my preschoolers because this allows them to easily follow a sequence so they can be able to retell a story. Not only will my preschooler be able to retell the story but with my different activities they will be able to express themselves and explore.

The Caterpiller Sequence

For this first activity in a small group of students in the Print-rich environment, I will have them put together a sequence. Allowing them to use the book as a reference so they can properly place the correct things in the correct order. I will also allow them to color it but they must color it the same way as it was presented in the book. This activity will allow them not only to work together but identify in the book what happens first. Also image in this example that words are written text to the food. For example apple of the apple card. This will allow them to look through the book and identify where they can find the word apple as presented in the card. The goal is to be able to give my preschoolers a chance to identify or show what they have learned from the book.

The Caterpiller Printout Puppets

For the next center within the print-rich environment center, I will be using printout puppets on popsicle sticks. These puppets will allow them to retell the story by actually acting it out. This activity is important for reading development because it can summarize what they have learned from the book. When they look back at the book and remember the activity they did they will try to make up the words connecting to how they used the Caterpillar puppet and sequenced it with the food it ate. Making learning and reading fun and full of engagement will encourage them to read and explore more.

The Caterpillar Sensory Bin

For this last sensory that will be in the print-rich environment as well, is the Caterpiller sensory Bin. This will allow my preschooler to have hands on with retelling the story. This will allow them to build on their fine motor skills, improve on their memory, storytelling, and create descriptive vocabulary when retellingbthe story. This activity is fun and creative and will allow the preschoolers to be entertained while also growing in print and reading skills.
