John Lennon was the founder of the Beetles Band, which he left in 1969. He was born in England during World War 2. His mother inspired him to play music and learn instruments. As an adult, Lennon married Cynthia Powell and they had one son together. Powell and Lennon later divorced in 1968. He eventually remarried in 1969, an artist named, Yoko Ono. They also had one son together. Eventually his wife and him moved to the United States.

Imagine was written during the Vietnam War. The song uses emotion to reach it's listeners. The lyrics emphasize peace and sharing a world together in harmony. The goal of the song was to end the Vietnam War. The song envisioned a Utopian world. This section was influenced by his wife, Yoko Ono. Lennon is hoping his listeners are people filled with love, happiness, and hope. The lyrics try to remove all instigators of world issues and imagine a world without them. For instance, no hell, no religion and no materialistic items. They see the world as one family working together and all the countries support eachother. Again, this song is all about hope and imaging this type of environment. This inspiration came from being surrounded by a war with death and financial loss. It's words gave listeners positive direction.

I have never lived during a time of war but, I do see how this song could be very effective during this time. A period of war is dark and negative. I would think that people would grasp onto every bit of hope they can find. The song, Imagine, is a soft song that helps relax people. I completely agree with the lyrics of the song. I think removing stressors like religion and money, the world would be a better place. People would be able to unite based on friendship and not look for conflict among eachother. Some people might not agree with this song because, it isn't realistic. The world will never exist without money and religion and they can't picture this in their minds.
