Rivers always start up high, (for example the Matura comes from and mountain in Queestown and ends in the ocean) The water that creates rivers comes from snow (from mountains) or rain. The rivers/streams are gradually created from the water pushing back the ground o form the rivers.

Most rivers begin life as a tiny stream running down a mountain slope. They are fed by melting snow and ice, or by rainwater running off the land. The water follows cracks and folds in the land as it flows downhill. Small streams meet and join together, growing larger and larger until the flow can be called a river.

How Are Mountains Formed? The world's tallest mountain ranges form when pieces of Earth's crust—called plates—smash against each other in a process called plate tectonics, and buckle up like the hood of a car in a head-on collision
