1)Both Singapore and America are multiracial nations in which a variety of races co-exist. When people from diverse cultures come together, collision of mindset and lifestyles may result in conflicts that disturb peace in the region. In order for the citizens to live harmoniously, cultural integration becomes a paramount and imperative mission of education systems in both countries. The task takes on a heavier load in recent years, especially on building a tolerance to Muslim culture. This is due to the increasingly strained tension between Muslim and people from other races as a consequence of the aggravating terrorist attacks. Undoubtedly, both systems have put in tremendous effort to educate students to tolerate cultural differences and to eradicate racial and cultural discrimination. However,  measures to reinforce racial harmony seem not reach the desired outcome in both cases. Students in both countries still exercise certain level of discrimination either implicitly or explicitly.

3 key differences between the education system of Singapore and the United States:

1)In Singapore, obtaining excellent results in various examinations is deemed by many as the major priority of the education system. While the government claims that Singapore's education system provides an environment conducive for students to pursue their own passion, in reality the ultimate focus of Singapore schools on examinations prepare students to do well in a controlled environment with test questions they have prepared for months, if not years. Unfortunately, stressful students barely have time to expand their skills and interests, the defining elements in their adult life, outside the campus. Hence, local schools try to obtain short-term gratification on satisfactory test results by compromising students' future potentials. Such an extreme focus is in drastic contrast with the emphasis of education in the US. American schools aim at nurturing students into productive and happy members of the society. In attempt to do so, schools have adopt methods that includes the building various civic societies that are created by students and monitored by adults. Unlike the Co-Curriculum Activities in Singapore schools,  these societies allow students to initiate activities independently and interact with each other like they would in adult life. The experiences in these societies can better prepare them for the upcoming adult life in which they have to enter the society and fight on their own. 

2)Students in American schools are inculcated with not only the skills to solve problems, but also the ability to think outside of boundary and discover unsolved problems. Singapore has emphasized on the enhancement of students' problem-solving skills. Yet, it ignores the fact that students not only need the skills to solve the existing problems, but need the knowledge and expertise to find hidden problems that remain unnoticed or solutions that tackles issue more effectively than other suggestions. This reason becomes one of the defining feature of a country's strength in innovation and creation.
