The first stage of Erikson’s theory of psychological development occurs between birth and 1 years old. These stages are the most fundamental stage of life. A infant is utterly dependent, developing trust is based on the dependability and quality of the child’s parents. “ a baby develops sense if the world is good or no.” When I was a baby my parents showed me a lot of trust and cared for me well. I was able to develop more of trust than mistrust from the at a young age.

The second stage of Erikson’s theory of psychological development occurs between 18 months to 3 years old. A child develops a balance of independence and self- sufficiency over shame and doubt. “Children who come through this stage with flying colors will believe in themselves and feel secure in their abilities. Children who aren’t given the chance to assert themselves within the limits a parent sets will battle with feeling of inadequacy and self-doubt.” When I was this age I was told that I was very independent and developed fast but at some points I did face shame and doubt.

The third stage of Erikson’s theory of psychological development occurs 3 to 6 years old. These are preschool years. As your child interacts socially and plays with others, they learn that they can take the initiative and control what happens. “Child develops initiative when trying new things and is not overwhelmed by guilt.” You can encourage your child to plan, achieve goals, and take responsibility by making sure they have plenty of opportunities to interact with other kids. When I was in preschool I was very social and loved playing with my peers. I did not experience a lot of guilt more than initiative.

The fourth stage of Erikson’s theory of psychological development occurs between 6 years old to puberty. This is when the child will hit elementary school. Here they learn new skills. It’s also where their circle of influence widens. In these stages a child can start comparing themselves to his or her peer. If your child struggles in one area, look for another area in which they can shine. You can help your kid develop their strengths in areas where they have a natural flair. “ a child must learn culture or face feelings of incompetence.” As a young child I was definitely a comparer, I compared myself to my fellow peers. I compared my family to others family as well.

At This stage, your child faces the challenges of developing sense of self. They form their identity by examining their beliefs, goals, and values. Encouragement and reinforcement in this stage is important. You give your child vital to shaping their personal identity.your child’s experiences and social interactions mold their behavior and ideals. “ adolescence must determine sense of self (who am I) or experience confusion about roles.” From puberty to young adulthood I have faced the challenges of developing the sense of self.

The sixth stage of Erikson’s theory of psychological development occurs in young adulthood. “ a person seeks to make commitments to others or may suffer from isolation and self-absorption.” This is the stage where people start to recognize themselves. People with strong sense of identity will now be ready to share their lives with others. When people complete this stage successfully, they come away with commitment and love. Lacking the security and warmth of loving relationships, they’re more likely to experience loneliness and isolation/depression. I have not reached this stage in my life but they way I am going I feel like I will successfully find a person and have full commitment.

The seventh stage of Erikson’s theory of psychological development occurs in middle adulthood. “ mature adult is concerned with establishing and guiding the next generation or else feels personal impoverishment.” This is characterized by a need to give to others. It can also mean contributing to community charities, and events that better Society. People who complete this stage successfully have the signification of knowing that you are needed. They feel that they are contributing to their families and community and workplace. Without positive feedback in these areas, people may experience stagnation. I am the type of person that gives back to my community and I love to help others that are in need. I am the type of person to help people feel need. I show more generosity than stagnation.

The last stage of Erikson’s theory of psychological development occurs in the late adulthood. “ Elderly person, achieves acceptance of own life, allowing acceptance of death or else despairs over inability to Relive life.” This is the stage of reflection. During late adulthood when the peace of life slows down, people look back on their lives to exist what they achieved. People who are proud of what they’ve done experience genuine satisfaction for someone who didn’t complete the previous stages may feel loss and regret, they may see their lives as unproductive and become depressed. I have not reach this stage in life but I know that I will be proud of my life journey and I will live my late adulthood in peace.
