Amira has internal conflict with herself because she is not sure if she is able to trust Daindreth or not. As the book progresses she grows nearer to him however she doesn't fully trust him. Once the book nears its end she grows to trust him and even falls in love with him.

Loving but Controlling

Amira's father being in control of her could symbolize how some parents can be controlling when they are really just trying to help you. Amira's father only cursed her to be an assassin to protect his kingdom and his youngest daughter, Fonra, so even if he may appear as a villain he is really just trying maintain what he loves most.

Amira's Love

Later in the book, Daindreth is being taken over by Caa Iss, the demon that possesses him. Amira sees this and has to help him. Before this went down Amira had broken her curse to obey him and in doing so gained more power. To help Daindreth Amira channels ka, the source of all magic and she sends it into Daindreth to push back the evil ka from Caa Iss. Her doing so was able to help Daindreth fight back. The ka could represent her love for Daindreth fighting off the demons, to back this up previously in the story when she tells him she loves him his eyes flicker back to normal when they were previously red from Caa Iss

Sibling Relationship

I related with the book because the characters Amira and Thadred had a very brother-sister like relationship. The main time I related to this was on page 199. The text states "Careful," Amira added to the knight with a venomous smile. "My compulsions are gone. I can kick your butt now."

"Would you stoop to attacking a cripple?" Thadred asked in a mock scandal.

"Yes."

I laughed at this part and I related to it as how me and my siblings show our love. I thought it was perfect for Thadred and Amira even thought they aren't siblings.

Daindreth's Assassin Summary

Amira was born a daughter of a Istovari sorceress and King Hyle. She was cursed to obey her father. Her father forced her to be his assassin. Her younger sister, Fonra, was betrothed to Daindreth, a demon-possessed archduke. King Hyle was aware of his curse to the demon and sent Amira to kill him. When she went to kill him she failed and a few days later, it was time for Fonra to be sent off with Daindreth. However, Daindreth knew who had tried to kill him that night but he also knew she was able to suppress his demon which is exactly what he needed. Daindreth asked for Amira instead of Fonra and King Hyle agreed. King Hyle said the vows but in doing so he accidentally moved the curse so that Daindreth could now control Amira. As the story goes on Amira grows closer and closer to Daindreth. She meets his mother who doesn't seem pleased with the fact Daindreth chose her. Later, Amira discovers Daindreth's mother is a witch who uses a demon similar to Daindreths so that she can have magic but Amira doesn't say anything. Eventually, Daindreth brings Amira to a sparring field to train where they finally kiss. After Daindreth kissed her he said he didn't want the court to see them together and that they should just be friends and marry to make heirs. Amira is mad at him for this but still helps him. She makes a potion that should suppress Caa Iss, Daindreths demon, but it fails. Then she goes to a dance with Daindreth and at the end of it, her, Daindreth, and Thadred, Daindreth's cousin, all go meet with Daindreth's mom, Vesha. Vesha tells Daindreth it's time to make the decision which Amira didn't know what she was talking about. Vesha said either Daindreth gives himself to the demon or Thadred and Amira die. Daindreth tells Thadred and Amira to run. (or commands them because they are in his control) and they have to. So they run but eventually Amira decides she'd rather die to her curse than not save Daindreth. So she runs back to the city and her curse starts choking her further and further but she keeps going. However since she is going to protect her master the curse is also making her stronger like a snake eating its own tail. So her curse breaks and she can go back into the city. She runs to Daindreth. Once she gets there she takes out Vesha's guards and tries to save Daindreth. She grabs Daindreth by the temples and pushes ka, the source of magic, into him so she can push out Caa Iss. Once she did that Amira and Daindreth took out a few guards then ran. However, Amira was injured so her, Daindreth and Thadred took a boat and tended to her wounds. They had eachother and for now that would have to be enough.

I thought this was a good quote because it perfectly describes how you feel when you hurt someone by mistake.

Daindreth's True Self

The main lesson learned in Daindreth's Assassin is don't judge a book by its cover. When Daindreth is first shown he is being controlled by a demon. Amira was sent to kill him but the demon overpowered her. As the book goes on you discover Daindreth is actually a sweet, kind-hearted person. The author described him as a demon-possessed archduke with a golden-retriever personality.

Person vs Supernatural

Amira's main external conflict is in person vs supernatural creature/force. Amira first has to deal with her own curse of having to obey a master known as her liege lord. Her original liege lord was her father who made her assassin however, when she was betrothed to Daindreth, her father accidentally made Daindreth her liege lord. Secondly, she has to go up against Caa Iss, Daindreth's demon.

Amira's Curse

Amira's curse symbolizes her keeping her inner feelings. When Amira is running to save Daindreth her curse is closing in on her. Previously Daindreth had ordered her to run and since he is her master she has to according to the curse. While this is happening she has never admitted to loving Daindreth throughout the book. However, her curse breaks once she says "I won't leave him. I love him!" (Wheatley 231). Once she admits she loves him her curse breaks.
