HADITH JIBRIL

The Foundation of Islam

The Ḥadīth Jibrīl is one of the most important hadiths, as it summarizes the core aspects of Islam. In this hadith, Angel Jibrīl (Gabriel) asked Prophet Muhammad (SAW) about Islam, Iman, Ihsan, and the Day of Judgment, teaching us the essence of our faith.

1. Islam (Submission to Allah)

Islam is built on five pillars, which every Muslim must follow:

Shahada: Declaring that there is no god but Allah and Muhammad (SAW) is His Messenger.

Salah: Performing the five daily prayers.

Sawm: Fasting during Ramadan.

Zakah: Giving charity to those in need.

Hajj: Performing the pilgrimage to Mecca if able.

2. Iman (Faith)

Faith in Islam is based on six core beliefs:

Belief in Allah (His Oneness and power).

Belief in Angels (created to serve Allah).

Belief in Scriptures (revealed books like the Quran).

Belief in Prophets (messengers sent to guide humanity).

Belief in the Day of Judgment (when all will be held accountable).

Belief in Qadar (Allah’s divine plan and destiny).

3. Ihsan (Spiritual Excellence)

Ihsan is worshiping Allah as if we see Him, always being aware that He sees us. It emphasizes sincerity, devotion, and excellence in actions.

4. The Day of Judgment

The exact time of the Day of Judgment is unknown, but Prophet Muhammad (SAW) mentioned signs of its approach, such as:

Social changes, like a slave girl giving birth to her master.

Moral decline, where people dress in revealing ways.

The rise of tall buildings, symbolizing materialism.

Adab (Etiquette) in Seeking Knowledge

Learn from authentic sources and qualified scholars.

Ask questions to deepen understanding.

This hadith reminds us that Islam is not just about practice, but also about faith, sincerity, and awareness of the hereafter.

Intention & Dua = IBADAH

Having sincere intentions (niyyah) and making dua (supplication) are essential aspects of ibadah (worship). Intentions give meaning to our actions, transforming even daily tasks into acts of worship when done for the sake of Allah. Meanwhile, dua is a powerful tool for seeking guidance, strength, and blessings. When combined, intentions and dua not only deepen our connection with Allah but also remind us to remain purposeful and mindful in everything we do.

Ibadah itself is not limited to ritual acts like prayer and fasting but extends to every aspect of life. Acts of kindness, honesty in work, seeking knowledge, and even simple daily routines can become ibadah if done with sincerity and in accordance with Islamic teachings. True ibadah strengthens our faith, purifies the heart, and brings peace, as it aligns our actions with the purpose of our existence—to worship and seek the pleasure of Allah in all that we do.

A PILLARS OF ISLAM

The Pillars of Islam form the foundation of a Muslim’s faith and practice, guiding them in their worship and daily life. However, an important component that strengthens a believer’s journey in upholding these pillars is the presence of Sabr (patience), Shukr (gratitude), and Tawakal (trust in Allah).

	•	Sabr (Patience): Essential in facing challenges, remaining steadfast in worship, and resisting temptations. True faith requires perseverance, whether in performing obligations like prayer and fasting or enduring hardships with trust in Allah’s wisdom.

	•	Shukr (Gratitude): Acknowledging and appreciating Allah’s blessings, big or small. Gratitude enhances contentment and strengthens devotion, reminding us that everything we have is from Allah.

	•	Tawakal (Trust in Allah): Placing complete reliance on Allah while making efforts in life. It teaches balance—working hard while believing that ultimate outcomes are in Allah’s hands.

These three qualities reinforce a Muslim’s ability to practice Islam sincerely, ensuring that their faith is not just about fulfilling obligations but also about developing a strong spiritual connection with Allah.

Eschatology in Islam refers to beliefs about the afterlife and the events of the end times. It includes the signs of the Last Day, such as the appearance of Dajjal and the return of Prophet Isa (AS). After death, the soul enters Barzakh, a waiting period in the grave before resurrection. On Judgment Day, everyone will be brought back to life and judged by Allah based on their deeds. The righteous will be rewarded with Paradise (Jannah), while wrongdoers will face punishment in Hell (Jahannam). This belief serves as a reminder for Muslims to live righteously and prepare for the hereafter.

Adab towards parents based on Surah Maryam (verses 41-50) can be seen in the story of Prophet Ibrahim (AS) and his father. These verses highlight key aspects of how children should treat their parents, even when they disagree in matters of faith.

Prophet Ibrahim (AS) addressed his father with respect and gentleness, using the word “Ya Abati” (O my dear father) to show love and honor. He advised his father with wisdom and patience, explaining the truth without being harsh. Despite his father rejecting his message and threatening him, Ibrahim (AS) remained humble and made dua for his father, saying, “I will seek forgiveness for you from my Lord.”

From these verses, we learn that children should always :

-use kind, considerate & respectable language to parents

-be kind to parents even though they are rude, harsh & inconsiderate

-making doa for parents
