Drowsed and drowned #alliteration
The writer is saying that the students were dozing off
Desk and flesh as one, #metaphor
The writer means that the students are laying their heads and putting alot of their body weights on the table.
swooning and swimming in a sea of drone #alliteration
The writer is referring to the students dozing off but are trying to keep themselves awake at the same time. The writer decided to use the phrase ‘swimming in a sea’ because when people swim in the sea, there are currents. Currents are hard to swim against and so it is used to describe how the students feel as they try to fight off their slumber.
