Then, all schools closed. Many schools in every region in Indonesia were not ready to apply the home learning programs yet.
Most students reported feeling even more stressed during the home learning programs. For them, the online classes took out the benefits of having friends to socialize with and left them alone with nothing but assignments. Some students said that the workload in the online classes was even larger than the workload of the regular classes.

I started to work in Pahoa last July, so when I entered Pahoa, its already online learning system. At first, I was so bad in technology, so when we trained to use all of the application for teaching, I felt so stress. But now it's ok because all of us used to it now.
Most students reported feeling even more stressed during the home learning programs. So do I (as a teacher), because I couldn't see their face. All of them closed the camera during class. So until now, I just remembered a few of my students faces. Hope this pandemic will end soon, so we can meet our students face to face.

When the first time we closed our school on March 2020,we didn't begin to teach online immediately. We just sent the recorded courseware to students via email or in Drive. That's very easy.
Until on july 2020,we started to teach online via google meet.We created classes and we uploaded materials in Google classroom. There were a lot of problems about online learning at the beginning.Such as,firstly, students didn't want to turn on their camera and micphone so that we dind't know whether they study or not. And secondly, there were so many assignments for different subjects, some students couldn't submit on time. They complained why there were so many assignments need to do. Thirdly, teachers and students coludn't interact very well.If we wanted to give a hug to students,we couldn't.As a result, our communication time with students was greatly reduced.
There were still exist many problems, but what we need to do is just to learn how to solve these problems. I believe we can deal with these problems.

When schools shut across Indonesia as part of a national lockdown in March 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Last year, students couldn’t interact with their friends, and teachers couldn’t teach face-to-face. Especially in elementary schools or kindergartens. They must use more interesting methods to attract students so that students can be more attentive.

Last year, my mandarin project changed from a face-to-face class to an online class. Indeed, it saved the time to find a classroom from an administrative point of view. But Students’ learning absorption is limited from the perspective of education

Although it was a disaster, I saw everyone’s crisis management and the whole people started to use digital learning. The world is sharing interesting and practical equipment and software, so that every teacher can teach more ideas and creativity.

Therefore, it is crucial that the innovation and creativity stimulated by this crisis be leveraged to make education systems more just, inclusive and resilient.

I was really touched recounts Sriram. “We were able to create something interesting and innovative that a child with no access but found a way to use the resource for his own benefit.” Final, I believe we can overcome everything and find new ways.

(Michelle Cendana)

Covid-19 is causing huge changes to the entire world. Every aspect of our life is getting the impact, especially education and work.

Students must to used to learn online, every task must be done on their own computer screen, having exam, reading, doing assignment, and the saddest part is they can only meet their friends on the screen. When online school had just started, many parents also reported that their children’s eyes were too tired while staring at the computer screen from the beginning of the day till noon. A few parents bought anti radiation glasses for their children to protect their eyes from harmful radiation.

As a teacher, I also encountered some problems while teaching online. I joined Pahoa school since July last year, it was my very first time did online-teaching. Although I had experience in teaching before, but online teaching was a challenge for me that time. From learning all applications and softwares which were used in teaching online, till finding ways on creating interesting learning method for students to prevent students from getting bored, because some of them can easily get bored in online class. The most challenging part for me until today is collecting students’ assigments, some of them did not submit their works on time, it become harder for teachers because we cannot reach students directly.

But I believe there are always two sides in one thing, the good and bad side, it goes the same too with the impact which covid-19 brings to us. Many creative websites, applications used for teaching are starting to show up, teachers are starting to learn new creative ways in teaching students, peoples are starting to see education in a better different way, learning can be done in any circumstances, and it is proved that human being have the capacity to overcome every hard situation.

I have been working at Pahoa since July last year. I believe this is the first time for us as educator to do the online teaching. This pandemic condition has made the school and teachers to change our teaching method to home-based learning through online platform.

Both teachers and students are very dependent on the internet network. From my experience during online teaching, some of my students is very difficult to be reached. Sometimes they also didn’t submit their homework on time. However I also have some diligent and talentful students that could create very beautiful paper cutting. In my opinion, there are two sides of the impact of online teaching, the good thing and the bad thing. I think the good thing are we improved our computer skills and of course the knowledge of online platform for teaching that we used such as Google Meet, Google Classroom, and some online games to support our teaching. The bad thing is both teachers and students sometimes felt tired to be online in front of the computer everyday, it’s also not good for our eyes facing the computer in long hours without rest. In the social aspect, the students also loose the chance to interact with their friends directly like in the school.

At the end, I hope this pandemic can be end soon, so we can get back to normal situation and meet each other. Thank you.

COVID-19 for me is as if sudden huge wave coming down pour when I’m just there to bask in tropical sunlight at the beach side, rolling everything on its way including me. When I heard the quarantine news last year on 23th January I was at my parents home visiting them for spring festival and was about to be there only for two weeks or so then preparing to get a job in Indonesia that leads me to this incredible opportunity to work in Pahoa.

And on upon receiving news that I have to works through virtual means I was thrilled that it would be a great experience meeting students and colleagues that never seen me in person, and it is! This also leads to new challenge as students should face new studying environment that they’re not used to with, in this case, their home. Which suppose to be place where they relax, where they play and having their own time, now that place on designated time turns into a classroom with only themselves and the camera. with teacher that they never seen or meet before, which is me. but everything turns out to work out just well for me because not only that I have great colleagues but the students also going well with the class.

I really hope the pandemic would be over soon so I can finally visit Pahoa in Indonesia and meeting my colleagues and get a real face-to-face with everyone or be in the real Pahoa building which I didn’t have to chance to do yet.

When there were two COVID-19 cases in Indonesia last March, I was teaching my first-year college students. I didn't catch the news in time, but my students told me that I should go to the supermarket after work and stock up on lots of food and daily necessities. Then, a week later, the college told me that I need to use Zoom for online classes until the end of the semester in early June 2020.

I started to work in Pahoa in July 2020.

Before came to Pahoa, although I had four months of experience in online classes, I was not very familiar, and Pahoa did not use Zoom. After came to here, I found that I had to learn to use Google classrooms and many other new websites and new APPs. So for me, the challenges of these changes are enormous.
Then as a new teacher, I didn't have a chance to met with my students. So at the beginning of the class, I was very nervous because I didn't know what impression I had made on them. Later, as we had more and more lessons, we became familiar with each other. Now we chat online a lot.

To be honest, this pandemic has certainly brought us a lot of trouble, but it has also brought us some benefits. For example, teachers and students have learned to use a lot of websites and some APPs. So that our computer skills have been significantly improved.

In the end, we still have to believe that everything will be back to normal. We’ll meet each other at school soon.

Online Working-He Yang When covid-19 first appeared, I didn't think much about it, but as it grew more and more, I suddenly realized that it was really serious. Because of covid-19, I must stay at home and cannot go anywhere . I must wear masks and keep distance when I go out. I joined Pahoa in July 2020. Everything is new to me. I have to learn many things in a short time. For example: google, googlemeet, googleclassroom, zoom and vpn. I have not used these before. When I first started learning, I was very anxious and very stressed. After a long time of practice , I use these more and more proficiently. Then, because it is an online class, it is more difficult to manage than face-to-face , and there will be more problems. For example, student does not sit well in class, the teacher asks the student to answer the question but the student will ignore. There will be many new situations and new problems in online classes, which need to be solved by us. This is more challenging than face-to-face. Although online classes are challenging, the methods are always more than difficult. Solve it one by one! I hope that the covid-19 will end soon so that we can return to school together.
