Mattox created a technique which is still found in jazz dance today. The Mattox technique is something we incorporate in to the warm ups for our jazz classes at Shockout Arts. It consists of syncopated hip, rib, and head isolations which are done simultaneously.

This is a exercise we have learnt in contemporary with Julius in the style of the Horton technique. In order to improve my triangle position, I need to increase the flexibility in my hips. Also, getting a stronger core will help to hold the coccyx balance steadily.

This is a piece of choreograph we have learnt in contempory with Julius in the style of Horton. "Horton's technique isn't limited to a concept of one or two movements and their contrasts. The technique is dynamic and dramatic, develops both strength and flexibility, and works with an energy that is constantly in motion (Legg, 2011, p.84) Therefore, if I continue to practice this style, it will come easier for my body to perform as it will get used to the different positions and movements as well as increasing my strength and flexibility.

This is a video from our ballet class at the end of the semester. I can see that I have improved my core stability in order to hold my balance during the pirouette. However, to improve my technique, I should bring my arms closer to my body and hold my leg in turn-out at the side of my knee.

When I perform my pirouette's I usually get dizzy very easily, to improve this I should 'spot'. "The ability to spot well remains an important aspect of turning. To spot, you look a t a place in space and hold that focus for as long as you can. When you can no longer mainstian the spot, you whip the head around quickly and return to focus on the same place in space." (Robey, 2015 p.114)
