This film digs into the different lives of people who suffer from ADHD. This video was filmed in New Zealand and it shows a bit into the reality of dealing with severely difficult children that can barely interact with their peers, let alone family members. Some behavioural characteristics can be determined as extreme distractibility, impulsivity and hyperactivity. Diagnosis has been proved controversial as most sufferers are diagnosed when young and treatment is for life. Not only children, this video also shows to adults that have suffered and lived with the disorder, ADHD, undiagnosed for much of their lives. It also sheds light towards the different methods of dealing with ADHD such as medication, life management, natural remedies and counselling.

Two children of the same age are asked the same questions but only one of them has ADHD. In order to truly see the differences you have to watch this video for yourself instead of reading a summary of it. But in the words of the child with ADHD, "kids without ADHD are better listeners than those with and that they could help those with it. They can help them by telling them whatever they do is 'so right' because they tried their hardest."

ADHD is attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, which is a behavioral and mental condition in the brain. It impacts brain volume and development. In fact, brain development could be delayed by three years. ADHD can be characterized as restlessness, impulsiveness, and inability to focus or concentrate. The cause of this disorder is unknown however many believe that genetics may play a role. ADHD can be found in results, however it is most commonly diagnosed within children. An estimated 1 in 20 children are diagnosed with ADHD in the United States, with male being the most significant. Another interesting fact is that it is the most frequently diagnosed child psychiatric disorder in the states. Scientists are working hard to understand more about brain functions so that those affected by this disorder can receive more efficient care and help they need.

Treating Kids with ADHD Without the Use of Medicine

A new study has shown that went through behavioral therapy before medicine developed much better. This could bring big changes to the way ADHD is treated. The new approach is that you praise your child for politeness, following the directions, and controlling their body. This new treatment where you do behavioral therapy before medication has shown a huge change in "the climate of the relationship between the parents and the child." A young boy with extreme ADHD was put into therapy where he was complimented almost a hundred times an hours. Eventually, their family started him on medication and the results have been remarkable.

Signs and Symptoms of ADHD

ADHD affects children in ways they have no way of controlling. It affects them in their everyday routine, their schoolwork or their relationships. The three main symptoms of ADHD are inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity. When the symptoms become present and more out of control, that is when your child should be consulted. ADHD is hereditary, which is why it's important to know your family medical history when evaluating your child for ADHD. If your child does indeed have ADHD, some treatments are academic support, counseling and medications. For academic support, this could be tutoring, preferential seating, extended time on tests and the use of electronic devices. As for medicine, there has been large debates about how appropriate it is. However, it has been found that the outcome for children using medication is better than those that do not. In conclusion, children not only have to be able to cope with their disorder, but parents need to learn ways to be able to cope with their child who has ADHD.

ADHD is one of the most common child mental health issues where estimates can range from 6-10% or even higher. You can imagine this as if you were to look in every classroom in a public school, at least one child may have this disorder. Symptoms that occur with ADHD can affect a child's academic and learning educational style, their behavior in a classroom, how they sit or respond to a teacher's rules, and even social aspects in a school setting. Typically, teachers are able to point out if a child has ADHD and they are good at spotting if it is getting in the way of their academics. It is important for a worrying parent about their child with ADHD's school performance to contact the school psychologist, their physician, and teachers to become aware of the help their child needs to be successful. Some of these ADHD interventions may be changing the environment or how information is presented and taught, and exploring new skill teaching techniques.

ADD eventually involved into ADHD to surround more of the symptoms that people with ADHD experience. Someone may be diagnosed with ADHD if they are inattentive which is not paying attention. Or if they are hyperactive/impulsive, when they are overly active. 9 symptoms lay within both of these characteristics. For inattentive, it may be if a child makes careless mistakes, doesn't listen, is easily distracted, etc. And for hyperactive/impulsive, some of the symptoms may be fidgeting, squirming or getting up often. Having symptoms of both types of ADHD is most common in children. The cause for ADHD is unknown, but we do know it falls under environmental or genetic factors. Treatment could be behavioral pyschotherapy which is focused merely towards children. This helps with time management or organizational skills. Another treatment is medication. This may be stimulants, which increases neurotronsmitters, lessening the symptoms.

A 7 year old is diagnosed with ADHD and her mother is confused to as if she could've prevented this disorder and what she can do to help. The truth is, ADHD is not the result of bad parenting. Or the result of common misconceptions such as letting your child watch too much television. Its a common medical condition, in fact 11% of school aged children (ages 4-17) are diagnosed with it, making it one of the most common neuro disorders among children. And while some may think all children exhibit the symptoms of ADHD, the children with it are a little side apart from those without. They have these symptoms over time and are excessive for their age. But the main point is that ADHD is not a result of poor parenting and mistakes.

ADHD is a mental disorder characterized by problems with paying attention, excessive activity, or difficulty controlling behavior. It mainly begins in childhood developmental ages and persists throughout adulthood. Cases of this mental disorder have been increasing rapidly through the years. Boys and girls display much different symptoms. Boys are more likely than girls to be diagnosed with the attention disorder. ADHD in girls is easy to overlook because their symptoms are not typical their symptoms. The symptoms are much more obvious in boys than girls. Treatment can include medication, cognitive behavioral therapy and support groups.

ADHD or attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder can cause problems in many different areas of life. These areas could be relationships, schoolwork, friends, job, organization and over-reacting. It's more than inattention, impulsivity, and poor organization. Instead, children with ADHD have deficits within areas of decision making functions that can affect them in many different ways. Think of the executive functions of a brain to be like a director of a movie. They both plan, organize, prioritize, sequence, manage time, and problem solve. So for someone with ADHD, their executive functions do not always function. This would be like if the director keeps falling asleep, there would be no one to control and work everything to put it all together in the end. This is what it's like for someone with ADHD.
