A title of "Employment of homosexuals and other sex perverts in the government" was given to members of the congress shortly after the federal government went in and looked at employees sexual orientation and this was at the begging of the cold war. Now this report that they took stated that homosexuality was a mental illness, and most homosexuals were considered as risks that they wouldn't be willing to take and they didn't want anybody like that because they looked at people that were homosexuals as emotional unstable people and they weren't normal and they sure didn't want that back then because they saw it as wring and weird and if you thought that was bad in a few people and women would have bee discharged from the military and many wold lose there jobs and these crazy actions would later on be called the "lavender scare"

On this date the american psychiatric association would list homosexuality as a sociopathic personality and when the word got around many professionals in medicine, mental health and social science people were quick to judge and criticize them because there was no proof of it ever being that.

American psychologist Evelyn hooker had done tons of research and did a few experiments to see if homosexuality was a mental illness she did many tests to see what the difference was and is it actual a mental illness and after all of Evelyn's hard work and all her hard earned research she was able to come to the conclusion that heterosexual men and homosexual men aren't all that different and with her having this conclusion her work got quite famous and it was looked at by many people .

A person by the name Harvey milk won a seat on the San Francisco board of supervision and he was responsible for introducing a gay rights ordinance to protect gays and lesbians from being fired from their jobs and milk also lead a very successful campaign against something named proposition 6 and this was an initiative forbidding homosexual teachers
