Muir (named after conservationist John Muir) is about to age out of the foster care system. She's lived 17 years avoiding attachments to anyone, and depending only on herself for survival. With one year to go, her caseworker convinces Muir to stay on a tiny island in the Pacific Northwest, where Muir promises herself she will not fall in love with any of the inhabitants. Until she gets there, and everything changes.
I loved *everything* about this book.

The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo

Evelyn Hugo is a film icon ready to spill the secrets about her glamorous and scandalous life...to Monique Grant, a reporter no one has heard of. As Monique interviews her, the actress tells her story of making her way to Los Angeles in the 1950s to her decision to leave show business in the ‘80s, and, of course, the seven husbands along the way. While Evelyn unspools a tale of ruthless ambition, unexpected friendship, and a great forbidden love, Monique begins to feel a very real connection to the legendary star. But what Monique doesn't know is that Evelyn’s intersects with Monique’s own life in tragic and irreversible ways. This book was a beautiful, fun read, although the twist at the end was meh.

Katelyn thinks that surprising her mom with a dating profile will be a fun, creative birthday gift her mom will love. It isn't. Katelyn's mom hasn't just been acting overprotective all these years--she's been hiding something. And hiding ROM someone. Now that anyone can find them online, Katelyn is in a desperate race against time to uncover the secrets of the past--not only her mom's, but also her own.
This was a quick read and the actions starts right away. Great for fans of April Henry.

The sequel to One of Us is Lying, and while it's a decent sequel, it wasn't (in my opinion) as good as the first one. It follows three high schools students as an anonymous source targets their high school for a high-stakes game of Truth or Dare.

When 10 teenage influencers are chosen to attend the grand opening of Unknown Island, an elite travel resort, they arrive expecting paparazzi and famous guests, and luxurious accommodations. What they don't expect is to be at the resort, alone, with no access to the outside world and no one one the island to help them. Because they weren’t invited to Unknown Island for their following—they were invited for their secrets. Everyone is hiding a deadly one, and it looks like someone’s decided it’s payback time. Unknown Island isn’t a vacation, it’s a trap. And it’s beginning to look like the First Ten—no matter how influential—are never coming home.
This was a great, super-fun mystery that reminded me of movies like I Know What You Did Last Summer, Urban Legends, and Scream.

Naomi is a teenage, Mexican-American girl living in 1930's Texas. After Naomi’s mother dies in San Antonio, she has no choice but to leave her grandparents and move with her twin siblings Beto and Cari to live with their white father. Shortly after her arrival, she meets Wash, a young Black man who befriends Naomi, Beto, and Cari. Because Naomi is of Mexican heritage and Wash is black and it is 1937, the romance that begins between them is strictly forbidden. There isn't a lot more that can be said without spoilers, but this story is set against the backdrop of the 1937 schoolhouse explosion that injured and killed a significant percentage of the community's children. This accidental explosion set off a chain reaction of violence fueled by the anger and hurt of the community, and the racial tension and injustice of the time period. LOTS of trigger warnings for this; it is a commonly challenged and banned book, but a beautiful, heartbreaking, and addictive read.
