When watching the videos, I was stuck on the fact that we all perceive color differently. I always find that when I am faced with this topic, I can't get out of my mind that I will never know if the red that I see is the same red that others do and it frustrates me. As I watched the video about Josef Albers, I thought about how amazing it was that he was able to harness how different colors looked side by side to make amazing art. The piece that had the green square was the artwork where I really saw how the colors influence how we see a specific color. The green made the grey that was immediately next to it look much warmer than it originally was.

In my earlier photography classes, I used to think converting a color photograph to black-and-white using Photoshop felt like "cheating." However, after watching the video on colorblindness, I’ve come to realize that perspective was quite narrow. The video broadened my understanding of how people experience color differently, and it made me appreciate the creative and inclusive possibilities of digital editing. I also really enjoyed exploring the color wheel and learning about various approaches to color theory. It reminded me of how different colors carry emotional and symbolic weight, like in yoga, where each color is often associated with a specific energy or chakra. That connection deepened my appreciation for how color can influence mood, meaning, and perception in both art and everyday life.

I honestly did not think much of color other than surface level things, but it really is deeper than I thought. The illusion with the colored cubes with different backgrounds was really interesting. When they put one on top of the other, I finally saw that the grids they were comparing were in fact the same color. Color really does have an impact on us whether we believe it or not. It can definitely evoke certain emotions within us. I was learning about something similar in my Mass Media and Communications class on how advertisements will use certain colors to hook the consumer. Made me think about my photography and how I can use different colors to draw people in.

Hi class,

I’ve had this revelation before, where in drawing and fashion it’s based off primary colors and in photography it’s RGB, but it hit me again during these lectures. It’s so strange to flip back and forth during my school work, but it’s interesting to see why they are different in areas. I have been curious about how everyone perceives senses especially color. It is something that no one could truly understand anyone else’s perception, we experiment so much at home with trying to describe to others. I am very excited to see the rest of the island of colorblind movie, I was fascinated by how the man described what he thought the objects would be.

After watching the videos in this week's lecture, my thoughts on color have changed. Color isn't just how it physically looks like, but understanding the concepts and theories behind color gives a different perspective to it. I didn't think much in depth about color at first, but now it makes me want to really think how colors shape the way we look at images. The Josef Albers Color Theory video was interesting, and I found it surprising to see how they tested how the cubes looked like with different colored backgrounds. Lots of different illusions presented were very captivating. And the Island of the Colorblind video felt more personal as they are documenting people who live in a small island that aren't able to see in color. I can't wait to see the following videos that belong to this series!

Watching these videos on the perception of color is truly humbling. I was one of those people who was frustrated by the internet debates of whether the dress was blue and black bs white and gold. I couldn’t understand how someone could possibly think the dress was white and gold. I like watching the video about Josef Albert’s because it takes a certain mind to sit there and manipulate color over and over again to get a certain effect. It makes me wonder how many paintings he did that we didn’t see because he was still working out what colors he wanted next to each other. I don’t think I ever truly understood how much colors can manipulate each other/your perception of them. I guess I’ve never really tried to play off having multiple colors next to each other to create a specific effect. I took the concept of color as more rigid than that. I also thought it was really interesting learning that people who are colorblind can see better in the dark!

The science of color perception is super cool. I really love optical illusions and thinking about color harmonies. During the white/gold vs blue/black dress moment, my entire family (except my dad) saw white/gold and only my dad saw brown/blue (which according to that video, is actually the pixel-perfect way to see the image), and we all teased my dad about it, so I need to give him credit now! I am also thinking about how to incorporate natural capture of color relationships in my photos, as opposed to post-production editing to emphasize the colors.

After watching all the provided information, my perception of color has completely changed. Color isn't just about the color itself, but what surrounds it that reflects onto the color. It's about the environment you put the color in, the effects, not only the emotion, but also the overall appearance of the color. Examples include whether you want the color pops against the background or not, and how it helps another color take the spotlight. I did my own experiment on this, which was fun and helpful as I'm a hands-on learner. So I took a white-ish blue light, directed it on my blue couch cover, took a photo of the couch cover, and took a photo. Later, that image wasn't blue; it was completely grey. it gives me more examples of what some of the videos were explaining. overall, now my knowledge of color theory has expanded, and I am very interested in learning more

My first thoughts on color is that I really need to work on my color theory. But really my thoughts on color at this point is that I need to practice my use of color to further enhance my knowledge on the subject. I'll try my best to incorporate colors into my future works.
